Watermarks

I've been wondering, since this is a tutorial community, if there is anyway to make a watermark for one's original artwork. I've been playing around with Gimp for a long time and have yet to figure out a way to put on a watermark for a picture. If anyone could direct me to any help, I'd really appericate it.
