Hello and welcome to Inspired, a weekly email for my paid subscribers. In this series I want to explore topics which I hope might spark some inspiration for your own photography. I will talk about my thought process for creating images, both in the field and in post processing. The posts will be linked in some way to the monthly challenges, hopefully giving you all lots of food for thought.

At the weekend I was lucky enough to secure permission to explore an area of ancient oak woodland that is local to me in Staverton, Suffolk. The wood is made up of two areas - Staverton Park which is private and Staverton Thicks which has access via a footpath.

The park is a relatively open area which has been regularly grazed and contains over 4000 pollarded oaks, many over 400 years old. The Thicks, at one time would probably have looked similar to the park but at some point grazing was excluded resulting in a tangle of vegetation where oaks and hollies battle for light and life.

At the weekend I was granted permission to explore the park, an area that is easier to photograph than the Thicks and one that is fascinating to walk around.

In this week’s post I thought I would show a couple of the images I made and discuss how I processed them - what my thought process was and how I achieved the look I was after.
