Liam posted a question about tequila but I've never been a fan of it. However I would try it again in this recipe: http://www.bravotv.com/foodies/recipes/avocado-ice-cream

Wallpaper Meme

1. Anyone who looks at this entry please post this meme(or not as suits you) and their current wallpaper at their LiveJournal.
2. Explain in five sentences why you're using that wallpaper.
3. Don't change your wallpaper before doing this! The point is to see what you had on.

This is a picture I took at Shelburne Farms several years ago. I saw this scene in the rear view mirror as I was driving. After a bit of internal debate, I had to turn around and capture the scene. Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the way the sunlight seems to really glow!

Not participating, but I love the make a something meme.

Considering that the project I've been working on for over seven months now will make it's appearance about a month from now, I'm not willing to take on the meme. I'm concentrating on wrapping up the things I've promised and the things I'd like to make for the baby instead.

However, I am having a lot of fun thinking about what the participants on my friends list might make!
"Oooooh, something out of yarn I'll bet!"
"She'd come up with the cutest little Amigurumi!"
"Hmmm, he could do a cool cartoon version of a person!"
"Now I know he does textile stuff, but I can't remember what exactly."
"Oh, gosh, she could do just about anything!"

Ah well, I'd better concentrate on quilts, diapers, baby hats, diaper covers, baby shoes, diaper linings, modifying onesies into baby T-shirts. . . . ack, I'm running out of time!

Pie for breakfast!

My attempt at making myself an allergen free pumpkin pie was quite successful. The recipe I followed was http://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/2008/10/vegan-pumpkin-pie-worthy-of.html though I did substitute the hemp milk with goat milk since I had a half gallon in the fridge! It passed the husband test and everyone at Thanksgiving Dinner finished their slice. Dad said he'd have never known there was buckwheat in it if I hadn't told him! I have to say it's pretty good for breakfast too! I'd actually made two pies. One on Wednesday to make sure it was worthy of actually bringing to Thanksgiving Dinner. So between what's leftover of the first pie and the Thanksgiving pie I still have a full pie left! (Well, minus this mornings breakfast!)

Adrenaline

Stupid Bat! We get them in the house about once a year at some point while the air conditioners are installed. We have windows that slide open sideways so air conditioner installation requires some hacks that have holes. I thought we'd got all the holes this year but I think we'll need to institute monthly inspections or something.

I don't think the echo location of this bat worked too well. He kept hitting his wings on the walls or running into the chimney (which admittedly is black). It's a good think I woke up early and could get him out of the house while it's still relatively dark out.

The first bat we had got out fairly easily once I noticed that it kept landing on the front door. Solution: open the front door! Next time he went to go land on it, outside he went.

The last bat we had flew around downstairs for a while. He finally landed on one of my houseplants. Justin was stunned that the bat stayed put while I carried the pot out the mudroom door.

This bat didn't land on either door. He did land on a curtain and on top of a wall cabinet. When he was on the curtain I went downstairs for some thick ski gloves since I planned to try to catch him up in the curtain. He flew off though. Once he landed on the wall cabinet I tried to catch him under a bowl. I must have missed. I went back to my position on the stairs where I could kind of see both doors while he went flying around again. He finally went past the sliding glass door low enough to go through it. Which was too low for me to actually witness but he doesn't seem to be in here anymore!

Post Pennsic Post

Pennsic was fabulous! I am so grateful for the good weather we had. I'm pretty much unpacked. I just have laundry and organizing the camping gear left. Oh, and hoping for dry weather so that the tent that got packed somewhat wet can dry out!

Both my parents and my in-laws have been by today. My FIL helped my husband tile the downstairs bathroom. I can't wait to have that bathroom back in working order. My parents were here since they were in the area and needed to avoid the hail and rain for a bit.

So, while I was away at Pennsic my brother got engaged! I wish I'd known that was in the cards so I could have spent more time getting to know her at the family's 4th of July party! The wedding is supposed to happen in December in Connecticut.

Of the three babies that I knew were due during Pennsic, I've only heard that one of them has actually been born.

Speaking of babies, I thought I'd let LJ land know that I'm pregnant. I'm not due until after my birthday so it'll be a while yet.

A year and a half after submitting my SCA name and device, I finally tried checking to see if it was registered. The only letter I'd had about it was that it was being forwarded although there was some uncertainty about my sources. That was really frustrating to hear considering I'd provided photocopies of pictures of medieval scrolls!
I'm excited to announce that both my name and device were registered.

I'll have to get an image together for my device, but for now:

Ghislaine Isabella de Lessines. Name and device.
Crepes

I went to The Skinny Pancake restaurant tonight with a friend. They have a couple of options that come close to being allergy free. I think the sweet potato fries may be the thing that is actually closest. They do have a gluten free skinny pancake but it has egg and possibly milk. I opted for the vegan crepe since that at least is free of egg and part of the flour is chickpea so it would at least have less gluten then a regular crepe anyway.

I am however amused at the irony of having ordered honey on my vegan crepe! *grins*

Clever Furniture

I love clever furniture! I'd collect it, if only it didn't take up so much space! Naturally, this means that IKEA is my Mecca. But there are other clever furniture pieces to be found. I wish this had been available when I was trying to furnish my condo!

http://hitslot.com/?p=204

Reading back though my journal

I'm terribly amused to see that on April 14th 2006, I posted about how my parents were using two televisions. One with sound and one with a picture. I mentioned that Justin might have gotten my dad to settle on a TV. Well, as of today, March 17, 2008, my father still hasn't bought a new TV. As a matter a fact, my parents are still using a TV they borrowed from Justin nearly 2 years ago! Good thing I married him!

Dad did look at TVs when we went to Costco today.

Merchanting in the SCA and online

So, I may be trying my hand at being a merchant in the SCA and online. It neatly solves a number of problems both long and short term. It'll be interesting to see how it goes, but I wanted to run it past my friends list since some of you have definite experience and knowledge that I lack.

Some of the questions that come to mind include:
How long can I get away with not taking credit cards at events?
State Tax? I've actually gotten the paperwork needed to deal with State Tax before, but I never actually ended up having to do anything with it! I'd have to re-apply.

Logistics of vehicles and which events to attend I can figure out, but I'm wondering how many pitfalls are out there that I'm not even aware of!

Friday Five with new Icon

1. Do you have a favorite type/brand of pins you use for quilting? If so, what?

I've got a box of pins that I bought in France that I love. They have small white glass heads. I think these pins a fairly common in Europe because my great aunt gave me a few pins just like them but with more colors. I'll be buying more when I go in June!

2. How many pincushions do you own? Show us a picture of your favorite one if you want.

I don't really use pin cushions but I've got two. The one pictured is my favorite of the two. It doesn't hold any of my European pins though.

3. Do you own any specialty/vintage/otherwise special quilting pins?

No.

4. What do you use to pick up pins that fall when you work?

I usually just bend down and get them with my fingers. My toes have been known to get involved too.

5. About how many pins do you think you have?

1200 maybe?
