Parent tracking child's ride on the Shuttlebee app

Everything you need to know.

We've organized answers for families and operators below. If you don't find what you're looking for, reach out at hello@getshuttlebee.com — we typically respond within one business day.

Safety & trust

Every Shuttlebee operator completes our comprehensive credentialing process before accepting any route. This includes state and national criminal background checks, child abuse clearances, motor vehicle record review, medical examiner's certification, drug and alcohol compliance verification, commercial auto insurance verification, and a vehicle safety inspection. There are no exceptions or provisional approvals — drivers must pass every screening before their first ride.
All operators complete Shuttlebee University, our proprietary training program covering every aspect of professional student transportation. The program runs through six modules: Kickoff (program requirements, business setup, regulatory pathways), Module 1: Foundations (safe transport of minors, duty of care), Module 2: Compliance (state regulations, required credentials, vehicle inspection standards), Module 3: Driver Skills (pre-trip inspections, defensive driving, emergency procedures, passenger management), Module 4: Technology (platform training, GPS tracking, parent communication, daily logs), and Module 5: Risk Management (insurance requirements, telematics, safety protocols). Drivers complete a written assessment and practical evaluation before receiving their Shuttlebee Certified Driver credential.
Certification is just the beginning. We maintain ongoing oversight through telematics monitoring — real-time tracking of speed, acceleration, braking, and route adherence on every ride. Compliance tracking with automated renewal reminders ensures credentials never lapse. Every operator must complete annual re-credentialing including renewed background checks and refresher training. Continuous safety performance review and family feedback inform operator standing. If issues arise, we address them immediately — safety is never negotiable.
All Shuttlebee operators carry commercial auto insurance with passenger coverage that meets or exceeds state requirements for student transportation. This is not personal auto insurance or rideshare coverage — it's true commercial passenger insurance designed for transporting children, with higher liability limits, passenger medical coverage, and uninsured/underinsured motorist protection. We verify coverage before any operator enters our network and re-verify at every renewal period to ensure continuous coverage.
Absolutely — and we encourage it. Your operator can arrange an introduction at your convenience before service begins. It's a chance to ask questions, see the vehicle, and help your child feel comfortable with their new ride. Many families schedule a brief meet-and-greet a few days before the first pickup. Your child can see where they'll sit, understand the routine, and put a face to the name. For younger children especially, this introduction makes the first day much smoother.
We serve students from elementary school through high school. Our operators are trained to work with the different needs of younger children — car seats, boosters, more hands-on supervision during pickup and dropoff — and older students who may need more independence or have complex after-school schedules. We have specific door-to-door handoff confirmation protocols for K–5 students.

Pricing & commitment

Never. Your rate is your rate. Unlike rideshare, we don't charge more when it's raining, during rush hour, or the first week of school. Rates are set based on route distance and schedule, and they stay consistent month after month. You'll never open the app on a rainy Monday morning to discover your transportation cost has tripled. The price you see when you enroll is the price you pay.
Shuttlebee coordinates transportation in small groups, so the total route cost is divided among the families participating. Routes typically range from $400–600 per student per month for full-year, round-trip service. Your monthly rate covers daily transportation per your school calendar, real-time GPS tracking, SMS notifications, direct driver messaging, and your dedicated driver assignment. No signup fees, no hidden charges.
The cost of each route is divided among the families participating, and how families split that cost is up to them. Some groups divide evenly per family regardless of headcount, others go per student, others land somewhere in between. We provide the total and support whatever arrangement your group decides works best.
Summer routes are priced based on the specific camp schedule and duration. Some camps run shorter days or fewer weeks, which affects monthly pricing. Many families keep their school-year operator for summer and simply switch from school to camp destination — your child already knows and trusts their driver, so the transition is seamless. Operators appreciate the year-round income, and families appreciate the continuity.
Enrollment is session-based — a week of camp, a semester, or a full school year depending on the program. We don't think of it as a contract so much as a mutual agreement: you're committing to the route, your driver is committing to you, and the other families on the shuttle are committing to each other. That's what makes the whole thing work. Our operators finance vehicles and plan routes based on committed families — that commitment is what allows them to deliver reliable, consistent service. You won't get a message in October saying your driver found something better.
Yes. We can arrange AM-only, PM-only, or full round-trip routes. The monthly rate is adjusted accordingly.

The ride experience

Yes. Route consistency is core to Shuttlebee — your child rides with the same dedicated driver in the same vehicle every day. This consistency is more than convenience; it's a safety feature. Your child knows their driver's face, vehicle, and routine. They're not scanning the pickup area looking for a stranger's car. You're not wondering each morning whether the right person will show up. That daily familiarity creates security for children and peace of mind for parents.
Shuttlebee operates small-group shuttles, typically 4–8 students per vehicle depending on the operator and route. Groups are small enough that your driver knows each child personally and can maintain a calm, safe environment — and large enough to create social connection. Many kids form friendships with their shuttle-mates that extend beyond the ride. The size also allows operators to run sustainable routes while keeping prices affordable for families.
You can see your driver's real-time location in the Shuttlebee app throughout the route. You'll also receive automatic SMS notifications when pickup is approaching, if the driver is running late, and when your child has been dropped off. GPS tracking is both a convenience and a safety tool — you know exactly when your child got on the shuttle and when they arrived at school. The transparency transforms transportation from a leap of faith into a trackable, verifiable service.
Yes. The Shuttlebee platform includes direct messaging between families and drivers. Need to coordinate a schedule change, flag something, or ask a question? You can reach your driver without sharing personal phone numbers. The secure channel keeps appropriate boundaries while enabling real-time communication — if your child has a doctor's appointment and needs to skip the afternoon ride, message your driver that morning.
Every Shuttlebee operator completes business continuity training as part of their certification — they're required to have a backup plan before they ever accept a route. Whether it's a vetted substitute driver, a reciprocal arrangement with another operator, or a credentialed family member, your operator has a continuity plan in place. If something comes up, you'll be notified immediately through the app with details on who's covering. You won't be left scrambling. This is what we mean by big-fleet reliability delivered by a small operator.
Drivers follow your school or camp's schedule. If school is closed or delayed, your driver will communicate any route changes through the app — and you won't be charged for cancelled school days. Because shuttles often cross school district lines, we consider closures across all districts in the route area, not just your child's school. The final call on safe driving conditions rests with your operator. Our drivers are trained to prioritize safety, and they have the authority — and the responsibility — to delay or cancel service if road conditions are dangerous. We back them on that decision.
Yes. Many of our routes handle families with two or more children at different schools or with different start times. We build the route to accommodate your family's specific schedule.

For operators

Earnings depend on the routes you operate, number of vehicles, and whether you serve school routes, after-school, summer camp, or specialty programs. Based on typical route pricing of $500–600 per student per month for full-year, round-trip service, operators build predictable recurring revenue. Shuttlebee can be a side business for school bus drivers, a full-time role for independent operators, or a way to offset vehicle costs. During onboarding, we walk you through earning models for your specific market.
Vehicles must meet our safety and passenger standards. We look for appropriate seating capacity for small-group shuttles (typically 6–8 passengers), current state safety inspection, reliable mechanical condition, and car seat or booster readiness for younger passengers. Most operators use minivans, SUVs, or passenger vans. Commercial auto insurance meeting state requirements for passenger transportation is required.
Shuttlebee University is our proprietary training and credentialing program covering every aspect of professional student transportation — from safety and compliance to business operations and technology. The program covers six modules: Foundations, Safety & Compliance, Driver Skills, Technology, Risk Management, and a Final Certification assessment. Completing it earns your Shuttlebee Certified Driver credential and opens access to the Shuttlebee Marketplace for route assignments.
Submit an application at getshuttlebee.com/operators/apply with your basic information, driving history, and business interest. We'll review your eligibility, run background and DMV checks, and invite qualified candidates into Shuttlebee University. Most operators complete the full onboarding process — application, training, credentialing, and certification — within 2–4 weeks. Our team guides you through every credential requirement step by step; you won't navigate state bureaucracy alone.

Real families. Real results.

Don't take our word for it — hear from the families who ride with us every day.

ShuttleBee was a godsend when we were trying to find a reliable alternative to district bussing. Onboarding was simple, we can track the vehicle so we know when to step out our front door and when our child has arrived at school. Driver/company communication was made simple and easy via an app.

Northern Liberties Parent

The team at Shuttlebee has been very reliable, professional and transparent. We utilized their services to take our daughter from Adaire to Northern Liberties Rec Center. We never had any issues. There was always great communication and the owner Kristina stays very connected with her clients and staff. I would highly recommend Shuttlebee to anyone looking for an alternative transportation service for their child.
