We're a day from celebrating New Year's Eve. And well, weirdly I don't feel it coming. Maybe it's because I've had so much free time that I just can't see a party on the way lol.

Today I received my package from Amazon - I bought HitRecord's Tiny Book of Tiny Stories Vol. 1! It's such a cute book, you want to squish it. The only thing though, is that I believe got myself a defective print - everything got printed upside down opposite from the cover, and I don't think that was their intention lol. The title page is at the end lol Almost like a manga should be read, but you still need to turn the book over lol.

I tweeted back to Joseph (Gordon-Levitt, yes yes, the man himself) to see if he would reply, but I doubt it. But I'm just going to wait a while before initiating an item replacement with Amazon. Although this copy of the book is defective, I do find it endearing! But it feels weird to have to read from the end cover, and upside down. Messes a bit with my fascination with detail and paper. It almost feels sacrilegious to read the way it's printed! XD

Edit: I decided to keep it. Unexpected print might mark an year of unexpectedness? lol

Anyhow, I guess this would close my last post for 2011 if I don't come here tomorrow.

Hello everyone!

I can't believe we are only a few days shy from Christmas. This Winter in Montreal has been pretty disappointing - because we don't have snow! We had a few snowfalls here and there, but nothing long lasting enough to coat our streets with fluffy white. Let's just say we had more rain than snow this December. I kinda miss it!

Remember this silly piece from two years ago?

My sidewalk is bare and boring. And I have nothing of that now lol.
Oh by the way, I didn't post about it, but all cards have been sent a little more than a week ago and some of you already told me they received theirs! So I'm glad it arrived safely.

The New Year is coming soon! 2012 already... feels weird. But it's the Year of the Dragon! And it's my sign - so 2012 BETTER BRING IT lol. Any other Dragons out there?

Hello all!

I come back again after a long absence online, and many things took place since my last time talking to you! I can't believe it's already December. And you all know what that means! Holiday cards! Well... I'm pretty last minute this year, though. But most of you (who still haven't unsubcribed/unfriended me because of my lack of posting ^^;;;) know how this works.

Anyone who wants a little card over the holidays can just leave me a comment if I already have their info or pm me their address and I'll try my best to make all the cards in time (that's what I get for posting this so close to the actual festivities lol). I have a maximum of 18 to send though and I already plan to send 7. So just letting you guys know.

Also! New layout, obviously! lol After a two year break of my habit of changing layouts every month (oh... how the times have changed!), here's a fresh and colorful outfit I chose. Yes, yes... I know... Nino doesn't show.... I STILL LOVE HIM, don't get me wrong. But I saw this beautiful painting and I just needed to have it up. And I love Paris. As you all know hehe. I know it's a bit bare-looking, but I think I needed to have more colors to fit the holiday mood XD

Apart of that, I can tell you I officially had my graduation convocation two weeks ago! I graduated with Distinction, which is cool. And I celebrated with friends and family. =) Most of you have known me ever since I started my program, and now that I've completed it, it seems like time flew by too quickly!

... Is this a post, Ruri? IS IT? IS THIS REAL LIIIIFE?

Yes, yes. After a year+ of empty promises... I come back with a post, full of guilty feelings, shame and well.. yeah. Sowwie, everyone? ^^; Now it would take ages if I had to recount all that's happened since January (omg, was that really the last time I posted?). So let's just cut to the chase here. My last uni year was... very disappointing unfortunately, buuuut hey. Not everything can sparkle and shine for long. You get ups and downs and you learn to live through it.

Aside of thaaaat. I've spent an incredible time in France (yes, France again!) with my family. And I got to meet with my fellow Arashi friends miung and jenni06 ! They were the sweetest girls ever and it was very refreshing to meet them. Let's say a lot of funny things happened lol.

I got to see one of the very last performances of a very popular French Musical - Mozart, L'Opéra Rock, and I also got to attend to the very Premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in Paris. Eight actors were there and more than 7000 people were in the stadium. I cried like a baby with everyone else and I don't think I'll forget this experience of cheering, crying and applauding characters that you have grown with onscreen lol.

I would have some pictures to show you, but it wouldn't do much. =P Sooo this is basically it.

Oh and MAN time flies by way too quick. My bday's coming up this Thursday. A year ago, I was in AFRICA!

Hello everyone!

Like many people here, I wanted to make one last post before welcoming the new year. =) I'm not really good at making summaries and looking back on everything I've done without sounding cheesy lol I'll try! XD

But the major events in 2010 were probably how I had fun during my 2nd university year and how I had a teacher that brought in me a dose of motivation when I most needed it. Of course, there's also Africa, a trip that I will never forget - and people I will always remember. Nevertheless, the last run in the year 2010 has been very rough and punctuated with many incidents - cuts and bruises and frustration. I hope once this year comes to an end, I'll magically feel better lol I'm looking up, even though I'm not yet out of the troubles I'm in.

2011 will be a year where I'll take better care of myself and will reach for whatever's there. Many things I looked forward to didn't turn out this year, but it won't keep me from working at it. I gotta stay positive! And get back to the colorful character that I am.

I wish you all good health, love, success, chocolate coated candies, some pixie dust and all the glitter and sparkles in the world to make it bright, shiny and magical!!

Midterms ahoy!! :'D

This upcoming weeks are gonna be ~~sexy and~~ WIIIILD! Assignments to hand in everywhere. But you know what? I'm going to Ottawa this Thursday up to like Saturday maybe. For what, you ask? The Ottawa International Animation Festival, of course! I'm going to go with possibly three other friends from my program. I think it's going to be awesome.

It's been a while since I've done any kind of road trip (well it's a couple of hour drive, not that big of a trip, but you know what I mean)! Hope it's going to be sunny and pretty outside. I just want to have fun. I feel like just rolling down the windows and sing at the top of my lungs like it's summer again. LOL

But before then. I have a two cinema researches/essays to hand in this week and the next. And work some more on my film (test shots, renders...) buuuuuut after then, it'll be Halloween!! And finally I'll be able to wear my costume. Can't wait.

I feel happy. A bit stressed out, but not too much. Things are going to be alright. And also, I'm having dinner in two weeks with my friend Francis and my teacher for a reunion~ Ghana Aftermath kinda thing haha.

I feel like going out and just bust out some moves. What's up with that? I really don't know why I want to dance. SHAKIN' OFF MAH WORRIES Y'ALL! lol

I have no excuses for not posting lol.
But I shall say this. My laptop's been recently wiped.
I lost many files and documents (lack of recent backups).
And that contained drafts of my Ghana picspams (lots of photos).
So it shall take me some more time to redo them.

For this, forgive me.
Also, this year is probably going to go like last year.
Meaning my posts won't be as frequent (albeit the fact that I'll be omnipresent).
But I think you guys are already pretty aware of this? ^__^;;;

I'm doing good. It's my third year in university.
I'm aiming for a student exchange next Fall to Japan.
Kansai Gaidai University would be my number one choice.

And, I'll try my very best....to post AT LEAST once a month at the very minimum lol.
But of course, I'm gonna try to post a lot more.
Just to give you guys a bit of news concerning crazy Rurimiya. ;)

Random stuff: For Halloween.
I'm going to go as Marie-Antoinette (well more like a sexy and slightly inaccurate version but still nice).
And it's the first time I tried a blonde wig on! See >>here<< for what I look like haha.

I've been trying to keep up with Arashi. Love Rainbow single, Dear Snow single...
Hatenai Sora soon...Incredible! When are they ever going to get a break?? lol

Also... I've been out of it for scans. I have no idea of what new photoshoots there are.

BACK IN MONTREAL!!!

After a rather smooth return from Accra (headaches in the plane and getting sick aside -__-), I finally stepped on canadian soil. Oh man. I gotta say I'm more than relieved to be back. And I had a good bowl of pho (vietnamese noodle soup) with my brother and my father. THAT FELT OH SO GOOD, OH MAH GOD. LOL.

Anyway, just a short entry to let you guys know I'm safe and well! :) I'l ltry to post my picspams soon.

For now, it's pretty bare and my friend who put it up wrote in French.
But we'll keep it in English in the future.

Both my friend and I will be celebrating our birthdays in Ghana.
It's so awesome XD I'm on the 18th and he's on the 22nd.
We agreed we'd do something on the 20th haha!

My itinerary is as the following:
3:05 pm flight from Montreal to Washington. An hour and a half long.
Then, waiting time of at least 5-6 hours.
And main flight from Washington to Accra... TEN HOURS long.
I never had anything so long before.
Sooooo if I get free wifi, I'll probably tweet a lot LOL (ruri twitter)

I'm so nervous XD I don't think I'll sleep much tonight. I have still so much to do!

Hello world!

Yes, it's Rurimiya talking to you. I will be in Africa in a little bit less than two weeks. It's incredibly nerve-wracking but I'm sure it will be an amazing experience. I just need some preparation and I still have much to do.

First things first!

Thanks to the awesome hakka_candy for the icon~ I felt like I needed something new and I thought "TISH PAPER SHOPPING TIME". So that is how I found that cuuuuuuute icon of my dearest boy. And omg I am SO sorry I missed your birthday!!! D: Actually, this brings me to make a shout-out...a very late shout-out, but a shout-out nonetheless!!!

Sorry I couldn't wish it to you on time :) But it's never too late, right? Hehe...

Ok! I also have some news for you~ We finally bought the tickets to Accra, Ghana! It's a definite thing now. I'm scheduled to leave on the 4th of August and return on the 27th. It's a little bit over 3 weeks - not an entire month, like I was first told. :) We still have to get our visa done, get some info on medical insurance provided by the university for the shots and whatnot, and... get things organized.

Once all of the papers, planning and stuff will be done with... I think I'll be able to relax a bit. For now, it's getting a bit nerve-wracking. I need to review my skills (been on a break since the end of the term lol).

For those who are curious about the work I'll be doing over there, here's what I'm going to do basically. There is an animation festival happening in Accra on the last week I spend there. And we were invited to teach a workshop for the students/people who subscribed to the festival. I will accompany my teacher along with another classmate and friend of mine. We'll teach the basics of animation and help them with the entire process of making a animated short film: pitching an idea, making a storyboard, coming up with an animatic/leica reel, etc. I'll be there to help them along the way, if they have questions or if they need some extra advice with their ideas. And towards the end, we'll help them in post-production and deliver their final movies. If everything goes well, their films will be screened during the festival.

As for me and my friend, we will have to make our own little short film on the side. Since this internship/project is going to be credited (12 credits OMG imagine making a whole semester in less than 4 weeks!!!), we need something to be graded on by our teacher. I thought making a movie together would be cool (and a lot less stressful and time-consuming). But he insisted in making his own film with his own ideas. It's a bit of a shame, but I don't mind it. So yeah, on the side we'll have to find time to work on our own thing. The workshop is actually like a full-time job - 5 days a week lol.

I feel slightly intimidated by the whole thing though. My teacher is qualified to teach and help (that's obvious considering her position). My friend is 30 years old, has his own media studio and teaches 3D animation workshops as well as studying part-time in my university program to get a degree. I'm the only one who's a bit of a rookie here XD I just need to have more confidence, I guess! I was approached for this whole thing for a reason XD If I wasn't good I guess I wouldn't be here telling you how Africa is waiting for me this August lol!

I CAN DO EET~~ lol! Ok ok. anyway. That's basically all there is for this!

OH! And also that I finally pre-ordered Arashi's upcoming new album (about time they release a complete album!!). :D I'll consider it my birthday gift. And that makes me think I'll be celebrating my 22nd birthday while in Africa!! 8D This is so unreal LOL. AND, my friend also has his birthday in August XD I bet we'll organize some cool party at one point to celebrate XD

Aaaaaaaaaaaand.... that's it. XD I think I covered everything I wanted to say.

OOOH. I forgot. Couple of weeks ago I went to a music event called "Next Music from Tokyo" and it's basically a canadian tour of 5 japanese indie bands, including Andymori. And I got my picture taken with the singer of that band by their photographer and the photo's on their website LOL. I'll maybe post an entry on that evening later on~ But it was pretty awesome, that I can tell you! :D

It's gone! D: I'll miss being captivated by the games! It was so fun watching all the competitions and seeing athletes battle it out (and seeing our own Canadian athletes win hehe).

That brings me to my latest obsession: Scott Moir!!! XD The Virtue/Moir performance during ice dancing (which is not something I followed so closely before!!) was breathtaking and so elegant~ And omg.... Moir. MOIR. I WANT MORE MOIR. rofl. But no, really - Tessa and Scott look so adorable together and even thought they are apparently dating someone, I wouldn't be surprised if later on they hooked up and got married or something. LOL But whatever they do, they obviously found a best friend in each other! lol (I'm getting cheesy....my god) Their chemistry is sooooo strong! It shows that they've known each other since they were kids. I mean just look!!!

Not that I'm leaving Nino behind (no no!). But I guess for the next couple of days... I could flail about someone who's actually at a relatively close distance from me LOL And you know what, I will see them skate along with Jamie Salé/David Pelletier this April~ I really can't wait for the show. :)

I had the weirdest dreams about Patrick Chan and other Olympic athletes.
I can't remember what happened, but they were definitely there.

BUT! I do clearly remember seeing Ohno and Nino and Jun singing Yurase, Ima Wo.
And Ohno didn't look pleased, for a reason....
Weird.

I love sleeping because I dream. And what I dream about is always crazy lol.
Oh and yayyyy we're past the 30K hits! Yayyy! :D

Vancouver Olympic Games 2010

I watched the whole opening ceremony yesterday from 9pm to midnight. The thing I enjoyed most was the floor light show/animations. It was really well done and successfully presented. I do have some mixed feelings about the songs all throughout the ceremony - they were almost all ballads and slow pieces, which I thought were bringing the atmosphere down a bit - even though it was moving for some people. I think they could have benefited from some more upbeat songs (just ask Sho to pass on Troublemaker or Yurase, Ima Wo!!).

I already posted shortly about the end glitch with the fire torch. It was embarrassing to watch, and very cringe-worthy. But I think if I was part of the audience over there, I wouldn't have minded as much because I wouldn't be sure about what was happening and in the know. On TV, all the presenters were talking about it, like "It was planned that four pillars would rise from beneath...Apparently there are some technical difficulties concerning the hydraulics." I mean if I hadn't known that, I probably would've just continued to stare at the pretty light show going on. So I think for people who were actually there, it wasn't much of a fail.

But I'm afraid that's what the Games are going to be best remembered for lol. Oh well. At least we got that awesome floor light show to be proud of! Apart of that, it was pretty nice. I keep reading up about how people compare it to the Beijing games, though. I know they set the bar extremely high, and it might take a while before anyone can deliver in the same way China did. But the Winter Games in general feel a lot more close and tight community-wise. Summer games are always big and grand. So I think in terms of budget and expectations for another season of Winter Games, it was nicely achieved. We didn't have amazing dance numbers involving thousands of people moving in unison or drumming in the exact same beat, but I'm still proud of the welcome the Canadians gave to the world. I love watching the Olympics because it feels like for a few days, the world comes together as one (as cheesy as it sounds). Makes me wonder why our 360 days a year can't be the same! lol I mean seeing the Parade of Nations with everyone welcoming the athletes is so awesome.
