    The magic is great. The way he describes cultivation is captivating and suitably depicted, not too long, nor too short. The combat is also well written and paced.

    However the author definitely fancies himself a poet, as he repeated tries to give brand new meanings to words. Its gets to the point where you either have to assume is a typo as some words are fitted together like... ladles? (Let's just pretend that word means something suitable. Just like the author does.) If you don't mind the occasional stab of confusion then it's still 5 stars

    This was a great first book to an interesting series. It was a bit typical in storyline - orphaned scullion starts upon the pathway to power through determination and stubborn luck. But these things become tropes because, when done well, they resonate with readers.

    Why does Diya seem to not have a Shadow Sect? While the tournament certainly took out a lot of the world’s elite, it certainly didn’t get anywhere near all of them, and it is also certain to galvanize everyone left into a united, and very determined resistance. It was a well planned opening salvo, but seems fairly patently poorly designed for any kind of long-term effectiveness.

    I will be anxious to see how things develop in the wider world, as well as with Kalder and his followers.

    I enjoyed both paperback and audiobook! I love the pictures the author paint with the words he uses. It transports you to the world you've never known. This is not just a fantasy or adventure with magic, it's more about the journey of cultivation...That's an interesting and special thing about this book. As I'm Asian who grew up with the story about cultivation or Qi which has its roots in Asia, I really recommend you this book! The author put it amazingly well into the fantasy adventure. I like the way he gives Falken to take time to master it. It leads the readers into Falken's journey deeper. I just can't wait book 2 coming out!!! Moreover, please make this story into movie or TV series!!
