What if everything you’ve been chasing isn’t what you truly need?
In 2008, Mo Issa seemed to have it all: a thriving business, financial success, and all the outward signs of a life well-lived. But beneath the surface, he was falling apart. Plagued by panic attacks and burdened by a deep sense of emptiness, Issa began to question the very foundation of his life.
What followed was a transformative journey of self-discovery—a shift from chasing external validation to finding inner peace. The Midlife Shift invites you to join Issa as he confronts his fears, reevaluates his priorities, and learns to live with purpose and authenticity.
Discover how to:
- Break free from the relentless pursuit of wealth and prestige
- Navigate the challenges of personal transformation
- Cultivate a deeper sense of meaning and connection
- Redefine what success looks like on your terms
With raw honesty and relatable insights, Issa shares how he moved from being an “obnoxious, hard-nosed businessman” to embracing a life of contentment and fulfillment. This isn’t just his story—it’s a roadmap for anyone feeling trapped in the rat race, wondering if there’s more to life than success and status.
The Midlife Shift is both an inspiring memoir and a practical guide to reclaiming your life. If you’re ready to make a change, this book will show you that it’s never too late to start living authentically.

-CHIP CONLEY, NYTimes Bestselling Author of Learning to Love Midlife & Founder of MEA
"This book was just what I needed when I needed it. Midlife can be confusing and disorienting, but it doesn't have to be a crisis-it can be an awakening. Mo Issa's book will show you how."
-JEFF GOINS, bestselling author of The Art of Work
"Whether you've tasted success, faced adversity, or feel a lingering malaise, The Midlife Shift reminds us that our best times can still lie ahead. With Issa's warmth and wisdom, this book shows how a purposeful life only grows richer over time."
-RICHARD LEIDER, International bestselling author of The Power of Purpose, Repacking Your Bags, and Life Reimagined
"The Midlife Shift captures Mo Issa's journey from a high-flying CEO to a man seeking deeper meaning beyond wealth and status. After panic attacks and a family tragedy, Issa confronts the emptiness of the 'rat race' and, inspired by Tolstoy's The Death of Ivan Ilych, embarks on a transformative path of self-discovery. This memoir, blending confessional and inspirational elements, reveals Issa's shift toward a life centered on spiritual balance and human connection. Written with humility and accessible prose, The Midlife Shift is a powerful invitation to embrace life's true essence."
-NII AYIKWEI PARKES, Poet and Author of Tail of the Blue Bird
"The Midlife Shift is more than a book; it's a bridge between ego and soul. Mo Issa's journey invites readers to look inward, discovering that true authenticity is born from self-love, not self-help. Through soulful storytelling and spiritual insight, Issa reminds us that life's failures are lessons, detours in our personal odyssey. This is a love story-an invitation to meet ourselves along the way. Open this book, sip its wisdom slowly, and perhaps, meet your own soul in the pages within."

An honest, relatable book with a journey people need to experience to live better lives
Beoordeeld in Nederland op 13 november 2024I found this book highly relatable, the weight of expectation, of pursuing success and achievement is a heavy weight on the people of our community, because unfortunately, it is what the majority use to measure the worth of a person. Rather than measure a person by their actions, behaviour, kindness, values, the Lebanese community seems to place success and material wealth above all. These societal pressures weigh us down to an extent that we live life chasing a target, and forego the chance to do what we love, what inspires us, what brings out the best of us. We end up not knowing ourselves and never living presently, always aiming for that target which is a supposed surefire way to gain respect.
Whether or not the book can be classified as a self help book, there are lessons to be learned, possibly the most difficult of these is realising that this weight of expectation can be shed as soon as you believe you don’t need the validation from people whose opinions have a negligible impact on your life. This journey of self growth and understanding is a journey every person should aim to experience. If more people went through such a journey our home country could be more than a bloated corpse that reeks of corruption and greed.

Beoordeeld in het Verenigd Koninkrijk op 13 november 2024I’m lucky and grateful to have received an early copy of the book and it couldn’t have come at a better time as I embark on a journey of self discover and improvement. Having been a student of Mo at a younger age, this book reinforces several concepts that have guided me through my life. It’s easy to digest and very relatable, yet profound and thought-provoking. I encourage anyone who is trying to better themselves at any aspect of their life to give this a read, and would encourage you to share this book with a friend, loved one or a relative as it might impact their life in the more positive way than you could imagine. Congratulations on publishing this book and for the undoubted positive effect it’s going to have on its readers!

Senam Bulla5 van 5 sterrenReflective and Insighful
Beoordeeld in de Verenigde Staten op 5 december 2024I am so glad I picked this book at the end of the year, the most reflective season for me. I have followed Mo for over 6 years now, and loved everything I have read from him. My attraction to Mo’s writing is due the authenticity and vulnerability it reflects. Like Mo’s first book and his many works I read, I start with an open mind, and finish with lots of thinking and notes.
As Mo acknowledged in his final pages, my personal journey is nothing like his. But our struggles and end of life goals are very similar. So I take the highlights of this book seriously.
Highly recommended.
