Spiteful Healer: Book One - A LitRPG Adventure (English Edition)

I really loved this book. It's a LitRPG book that takes place in a VRMMORPG, and while I normally like an isekai better, this one really hooked me.

What I liked about this one is that the protagonist had an actual motivation and personality to see things through his way. And while he was empathetic to his friends, he was goal-oriented. I also like when a protagonist has certain limits to their progression which they have to overcome in creative ways.

Also, this book actually had a great finale and rampup in the end. It actually felt like a complete book, something that can't be said of most other serialized titles in the genre.

Looking forward to the sequel.

Das ist meine erste Rezension zu einem Buch und ich muss sie einfach schreiben, weil mir die Serie unglaublich gut gefällt. Ich habe die ersten Kapitel von Spiteful Healer vor über vier Jahren auf Royal Road gelesen. Der Autor hat immer wieder längere Pausen eingelegt, aber ich bin froh, dass er jedes Mal zurückgekehrt ist und weitergeschrieben hat. Das die Geschichte jetzt auch auf Kindle erscheint, hat die Serie mehr als verdient.

Vom VR-MMO Setting sollte man sich nicht abschrecken lassen. Es ist zwar so, dass die Konsequenzen in einem solchen Setting oft geringer sind, aber die Underdog-Story, die sympathischen Charaktere, die tiefe Lore, die zahlreichen kleinen Twists und das hervorragende Pacing machen das mehr als wett.

Ich kann die Serie auf jeden Fall empfehlen für alle, die Lust auf eine clevere, spannende und mitreißende Story haben.

As a consummate, chronic, and perhaps serial crafter in games (MMOs especially), this book really resonated with me! The idea of picking up every single crafting and gathering ability, BEFORE focusing on leveling is something I've done more times than I can count.

The MC feels like a real person: he's not automatically going to try and save everyone because he feels obligated to "do good". No. He started this out of pure SPITE, so he's nowhere near that altruistic. He's playing to be the best, and that means making some decisions purely for the bonuses. He's got a reason for doing everything, and that reason is to get ahead. But he's not a horrible jerk about it.

The crafting remains the star throughout most of the book, and the relationships being built seem solid. The side characters will need more fleshing out, but they've got a pretty good start, for a first book.

The MC's mom is awesome.

I'm really looking forward to reading the next entry into this series!

Best out of the box MC I’ve ever seen. Healer/crafter/tank has a great balance and is engaging. World building, battle and character development is superb. Story sucks you in and doesn’t let you go. Hope author is a fast writer because I can’t wait for the next book.

The main character Eli is a certified loot goblin during the grinding periods and it reminded me so much of myself and how I play Skyrim. I was engaged throughout the book and look forward to the next. Lots of effort was put into the crafting system and I adored the details. Crafting always entices me in games and I could feel that enticement towards the book as the story developed and crafting was heavily shown.
