Loremaster - A Progression Fantasy Adventure (Ascension of a Street Rat Book 1) (English Edition)
So, he was fairly surprised to wake up in the back of a moving wagon with a couple of adventurers. Turns out that Rowan had been given something most street rats can only dream of. A second chance.
With only a sword, a spellbook, and enough gold for tuition, he is thrust into a school for aspiring adventurers. A world full of haughty nobles, scions of wealthy families, and various other types of people he used to steal from.
Here, Rowan must vie for his place among students who have been diving in their family-owned dungeons for years, their bodies filled with dense mana instead of tavern scraps and the occasional pilfered apple pie. He will have to fight, study, and most of all – keep his true past a secret.
Because Faebrook Academy is his second chance. His last chance.
About the series: Follow Rowan, a lowly street rat, on his journey to becoming a legendary adventurer in a world where diving monster-filled dungeons infuses your body with mana and helps you climb from lowly bronze tier all the way to the fabled Platinum tier. But first, he has to graduate.

A progression fantasy that blends LitRPG and Harry Potter
Beoordeeld in Nederland op 10 oktober 2025This book started out slow, but as soon as the Faebrook academy was introduced I was hooked. I love reading stories about magic academies, especially when the protagonist starts out with nothing and gradually improves themselves.
I liked the worldbuilding too, with dungeons being introduced. I think some parts might have been a little drawn-out for my tastes, and it became more slice-of-life at some points, but I appreciated the final act. A very good start of a series.

Allahrah Rakiyah5 van 5 sterrenGreat Book
Beoordeeld in de Verenigde Staten op 17 november 2024This was a surprise. I really loved the start, it gave a kind of classical feal of the gutter born hero origin story that I feel is not as common or well written these days. Love the different characters and writing and that they had their own voice. The pace was kind of slow at times though not particularly a bad thing, I felt like I was looking at someone’s actual life. Enough interesting changes and challenges happened where I kept turning the pages, just not as fast paced as I am used to, so I would say I’d you enjoy these types of stories where there is slow growth for the mc then stick around. It makes it more believable to me, instead of having an op character just passing through everything seamlessly. I do love the twist at the end, and can’t wait to read the next book. All in all, for me personally I would say a 8/10, solid world building, believable characters, their actions make sense, and enough problems or actions to keep it going. I would say during the action scenes, if there is less of all the thoughts the mc has at that time, it slows the pace down there and had me thinking a lot of time was passing where the mc wasn’t doing anything, whole time only a few minutes passed. It did make me want to rush through his thoughts.

Cosmin5 van 5 sterrenA trully enjoyable book
Beoordeeld in Duitsland op 16 augustus 2024I really liked the story. I have read reviews saying it is too slow paced etc. but I feel it all gives it a depth and well constructed feeling. Characters are well defined and the slice of life part fits well in the story. Looking forward to the next book in the series

Amazon Customer5 van 5 sterrenNice Development
Beoordeeld in Canada op 14 mei 2024Nice mix of action, character development, and some intrigue - all at a measured pace and with evident skill by the authors. Engrossing and pleasurable to read. I recommend it and look forward to the next one in the series.

A. Butler5 van 5 sterrenReally good story
Beoordeeld in het Verenigd Koninkrijk op 23 oktober 2024Is this just another Harry Potter?
Nope. I don't think it is. It's a lot more grown up for one thing. Rather than starting at age 11, the hero here starts in his late teens.
He has to justify his place at the magic school. And he has to actually fight his way though.
There is the Hermionie character - all brains and no personality, the Weasley character - well meaning but poor, and the Harry - an unknown and a newcomer. There there are others.
One theme you get from all these kinds of books is that those of noble birth are the kind of people you wouldn't wee on if they were on fire, but you happily do so it they weren't. This story hs that in spades.
The story istelf is a variation of the coming of age idea, of someone of low birth struggling against a system and society that gives nothing for free and even takes all from you for no reason other than it can. It's a nicely written tale with nice descriptions. It has humour and pathos aplenty and once I got deep enough into it I just couldn't stop reading it.
I'm now looking forwards to reading book 2 of this series...
Strange, both books point me to this same review page...
Book 2 gets serious, really serious. We see the emnity between the characters rising to new heights. Rowan's dungeoneering party is down to three and this achedmy year he has to have a party of 5 to be able to do the course work. His master drives him harder than before and we meet some of the power backing the evil Tianna.
Gripping and exciting. the story moves and flows nicely. The conflicting emotions between the characters nicely done with pathos and careful writing.
The second book builds the tension of the first and moves in a new direction, furthering itself from any Harry Potter insired themes into some dark territory.
