Originally, 5 of us , concerned with the gender blindness of most EU and international spaces to think about politics, policies and the future of the world, decided to create a G5 , an informal group of progressive feminists. “Plus” referred both the G for gender plus intersectionality and to 5 as it opened the door to new members. There are now 10 of us , convinced that the world will be a better place when rights and responsibilities, money, power and time are equally shared between women and men.
5 themes lie at the center of our concerns: Economic and social inequalities and the promotion of a caring economy, sustainable development, the eradication of violence, the exercise of power and the development of Artificial intelligence for all. Our mission is to analyze EU policies from a feminist perspective, with concerns for human development, care and solidarity. Our ultimate objective is to promote women’s rights and gender democracy , contributing with a feminist vision to the process of transformation of society and European integration.
Climate crisis
Climate change, environmental degradation and resource depletion are increasingly affecting the lives of people around the globe – both women and men, although not always necessarily in the same way and to the same extent.
Digital Revolution & AI
Despite progress made in the European legal and policy framework for the advancement of women, and despite changes in the role of women in society, the integration of gender equality in the digital and Artificial Intelligence developments is overlooked.
Feminist economy
Economic autonomy is a priority objective for gender equality and has been since the equal pay provision in the Treaty of Rome, the core of European action to promote gender equality.
Gender-based violence
Gender5+ believes that true equality between women and men goes hand in hand with the eradication of all forms of gender-based violence. Violence against women (VaW) is one of the most pervasive human rights violations of our time.
Parity democracy
Gender5+ believes that there can be no democracy without gender equality, without the equal participation of women at all levels, in politics as in society.

Gender Five Plus is partner of the PushBackLash Project – (Anti gender backlash and democratic pushback) funded by the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program (CL2-2021-DEMOCRACY-0l .03). This project is about actors, attitudes, agendas, and strategies that push back against gender equality and democracy and evidence-based strategies to counteract this pushback.
