Prof. Dr. M. Moynul Haque is currently serving as Pro Vice-Chancellor at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU), Gazipur since 17 October, 2024. Before joining this position, he was Professor (Grade I), Department of Agronomy of this university. His teaching and research experience is 41 years of which 28 years at this university and 13 years research experience at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute.

Academically, Prof. Moynul was the student of Rajshahi Cadet College, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Bangladesh Agricultural University and Institute of Postgraduate Studies in Agriculture. In addition, he completed course on farming systems research and extension at the Asian Institute of Development Studies, Philippines; breeding using molecular markers at Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China; agronomic and breeding research and DNA finger printing techniques  in mungbean research at AVRDC, Taiwan; seed testing and certificate course at Department of Seed, Danish Plant Directorate, Copenhagen, Denmark; CO2 enrichment research and technology at IARI, New Delhi, India; and quality education in higher education, MTC Global, Bangaluru, India.

From very beginning, Prof. Moynul was actively involved in research and outreach program of the university as a commitment of social service. He was engaged in different international and national funded research project viz. Swisscontact/DBSM, Katalyst, Bangladesh; SID/DANIDA, MoA; EU-FAO cotton IPM in Bangladesh project; Asia Pacific Network for Global Change Research project; MoST funded project; MoE funded project; BARC funded project; NATP-KGF funded project; and internal research funded projects of the university.

Outcome of his research is the development of 14 high yielding with special characteristics new crop varieties (rice 3, wheat 1, mungbean 7, black gram 1, chickpea 1 and soybean 1) cultivated in the country. Among the crop varieties, the rice variety BU dhan 1 was popular to mitigate Monga in northern Bangladesh. Besides, salinity tolerant wheat variety GAU gom 1 is released for southern Bangladesh where vast area remain fellow after harvesting of Aman rice. Another technology is developed through system-based research which is composed of four crops in sequence viz. Aman rice (BU dhan 1) – Mustard / Potato – Mungbean (BU mug 4) – Aus rice for northern Bangladesh to increase cropping intensity and ensure food security through short duration rice and mungbean variety of the university. For his noteworthy contribution, BARI-ACIAR and BSA awarded Certificate of Scientific Achievement in recognition of outstanding achievement in the field of agronomic research and development.

Prof. Moynul regularly offered three courses of Agronomy and two courses of Seed Science and Technology along with coordinated 17 batches training on Postgraduate Certificate Course on Seed Tecgnology funded by Ministry of Agriculture. He supervised 19 PhD and 49 MS students as Major Professor for dissertation and thesis research as part of their degree requirement. Prof. Moynul published 165 scientific papers in different national and international journals. He served as academic auditor for quality assurance in Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh Open University and Green University of Bangladesh.

In addition to academics and research activities, Prof. Moynul served additional duties as Controller of Examination; Dean, Faculty of Agriculture; Registrar; Director (Planning and Development); Director (Transport); Director (Outreach Program); Additional Director, Institutional Quality Assurance Cell; Head, Department of Agronomy; Coordinator, Seed Science and Technology Unit and Assistant Provost of the university.
