AI writes a BASIC program to solve mazes
AI learns BASIC and writes a maze solving program in 15 minutes
If you’re interested in seeing how a 2026 AI writes QBasic code, click the link below! Even though the AI initially claimed QBasic wasn’t supported, I watched it “read” the documentation and finish the program in about 15 minutes.
It’s honestly mind-blowing. I watched the AI experiment with different approaches until it finally worked. While the implementation is a little clunky, it successfully produced a functional QBJS program. Here’s how to try it out:
Click the link below. It leads to a webpage featuring a maze solver written in TypeScript with retro-style graphics.
Click the blue “QBJS IDE” button. This will reveal the raw QBasic code.
Click the green “COPY CODE & OPEN QBJS IDE” button. This will take you to qbjs.org.
Paste the code and hit the triangle “Run” button. The UI might not be as polished as the first page, but it solves mazes using QBasic! Seeing AI-generated QBasic code is fascinating, after watching this process, there is no doubt in my mind that AI is truly intelligent.
