This is "Game & Word" if it had been called "World & Word." If I were to to name a newsletter that best encapsulates the spirit, ideas, and style that G&W tries to bring to games writing, it's this one. The accessible and conversational tone, moments of discovery, and infectiously genuine excitement about learning for learning's sake are all traits I try to imbue G&W with. Mike has set a really high bar, and I one day hope to instill as much curiosity in my readers as he does in me.
Substack has lots of great humor writers, and lots of great gaming writers, but few great *gaming humor* writers. Missing the Point is one such writer, serving up smart and eminently readable satire that gives beloved gaming/geek cultural touchpoints the "corporate NPC" treatment, to hilarious effect.
The best longform history newsletter on Substack. If you like going *deep* into America and Britain's less-explored stories, grab a cuppa and learn something totally unexpected.
By far Substack's funniest and most creative newsletter. These bite-sized "Choose Your Own Adventure"-style stories are always a joy to read and discuss. Also, Geoffrey is an absolutely stand-up human being, and a friend to all writers.
