It's been about two weeks and since no member has commented saying that they'd be interested in a final challenge (which is a little bit sad to be honest, but not all together unexpected) it looks like it's time to just close down this community. I'd like to express my sincerest gratitude to any and all members that participated in this icontest (be it through submitting and/or voting) for your support. Even though I wasn't a moderator here that long, I'm really going to miss this place. If ever I or another mod decides to re-open the community, you will hear from us, but for now this is good-bye.

Attention: Status Update

Ok, I've kept you guys waiting far too long (a month flies when you're putting off making a difficult decision) but honestly I was really feeling the strain of a dying icontest community (in general, not just my own) and I needed to step back and think about how it was impacting my ability to mod, as well as my interest in continuing to do so. I understand the attraction of 20in20/challenge communities, but I also don't want LJ to lose all its traditional icontests, because they're two very different things and we need both of them!

However, with all things considered, I don't think that the icontest community can handle the 'strain' of having three more icontests running and I honestly don't feel I can handle the pressure of trying to keep three icontests alive during such slow times. I've decided the best thing to do is to close two of my communities: game_abc & mixnmatch_itest and focus all my attention on the remaining one: clamp_icontest. While I had high hopes for both and considered many other options before finally resting on this decision, Game ABC has a much smaller fan-base and Mix 'n Match Itest is just still too new for either to warrant the measures needed to increase their activity. It seems less risky to stick with the one that has been around the longest and had the highest participation levels overall throughout, plus it will always be my first <3

That said, I'd be more than happy to run a final challenge (some sort of icon set, I already have a few ideas) and give this community a proper send off... but only if there are enough members willing to participate, as I don't want to waste anyone's time. Leave a comment here if you're interested. Otherwise, this is goodbye (unless you happen to be a CLAMP fan, in which case I'd love to see you over there) and I do thank you all for the fun times while they lasted! Of course, there is always the chance that things will pick up again and I'll find a way to re-open (or perhaps a former moderator will return and want to try their hand at running things) but for now this is where I leave you or in the words of Barney Stinson:

Week Z Reminder

So yah, hi, I'm back. On Tuesday afternoon my computer decided to crash and didn't want to start up again. After a good deal of running safemode, doing diagnostics and even attempting system restores, it became clear that while my harddrive was fine my operating system had somehow become corrupt and needed to be re-installed via a factory reboot >.< Fortunately a friend from work who majors in computer science was able to come by yesterday and do some stuff I'm not 100% sure I understood to access my harddrive with his own OS, retrieve my files and back them up before re-installing Windows to eliminate the risk of losing everything I didn't already have saved externally :)

Anyway, now that my computer appears to be back to normal (although with that odd new-car smell) we can get back on track. I've decided to treat this post as a reminder and move the original deadline until next Friday because of the lack of both mod presence and entries thus far... plus the fact that I already have so much else to catch up on this weekend.

The letter Z has 1 zealous entry at the moment, so more are definitely needed and appreciated. Those interested, please submit an icon or two at the submission post by Friday, August 19th at 10:00 PM EST.
