First off, I just want to say thank you for your patience in July. I took the month off Substack to hone in on writing my book, and it really paid off! I got a lot done. And I’m especially really grateful to those of you who are paid subscribers to this publication, as you make it possible for me to do something like that in the first place. Thank you thank you!

I’d hoped to send this piece out whilst I was still in Sulawesi. But my internet access was so limited and my days so full that I haven’t got round to finishing and recording it until now. As I put together my notes from my field trip in Indonesia for my next entries, here are some reflections during my trip.
