A non-important pet peeve of mine is when “normal” people position their opinions in a “trust me! I’m not an influencer(derogatory)” kind of way. My interpretation of that comment is: by definition, an influencer sacrifices their integrity and thus every opinion they share is from a morally bankrupt position where they are incentivized to lie to you.

But, is that really the foundation of successful internet influence? The whole reason why influencers gained relevance to begin with was because they could tap into a well of relatability that traditional media could not1. The democratization of media attention [and the subsequent assumption of authority] is easily observed in the beauty space. With a quick “shade twin” TikTok search, you can find tens [if not hundreds] of influencers that can shade match your entire makeup routine in under 5 minutes. Recommendations get even more specific when we consider undertones, skin concerns, and other key product requirements optimized for their lifestyles.

In reality, still, you can only be sure about a product once you’ve used it. You’ll probably find that most of them are simply… okay, usable, fine. If you really want the tea on what products your favorite influencers are very invested in, you gotta ask the right questions:

right, so what are you traveling with?

📺 what i’m watching: margo’s got money troubles (apple tv+)

💄 LCOTW: rhode peptide lip tint in flex and EADEM Le Chou Chou in sakura shaved ice

🧠 a hyperfixation: tea time before bed time

🍫 weekend treat: a showing of Oh, Mary! on Broadway

📙 reader’s corner: reading like 5 books right now (subway book, tote bag book, before bed book, audio book, hot girl walk book, kindle book)… would not recommend

Earning a spot in my beauty travel case(s) is probably the equivalent of someone getting inducted into the relevant Hall of Fame or maybe, winning an Oscar. That sounds extreme, maybe. But, a product that’s reliable and versatile… an elite combination. What’s in my travel case(s)? Glad you asked!

the skincare

cleanser one: mini garnier micellar water

I haven’t slept in my makeup since college (nearly a decade ago). It’s one of my top tips for clearer skin. The Garnier Micellar Water is effective, gentle, and cheap. But also, if ma:nyo locked in and offered a travel size of their Pure Cleansing Oil, I would 100% make the swap. Don’t forget your reusable cotton rounds.

cleanser two: rhode pineapple refresh daily cleanser

I prefer traveling with twist top packaging so the rhode daily cleanser wins out over some other formulas. This is probably my favorite product from their skincare line. It leaves my skin supple after use with no stripping or tightness. Scent is subtle.

chemical exfoliant: eadem cashmere peel

If you want smooth, poreless (within realistic limits) skin, you’ll use Cashmere Peel 1-2 times a week (at night). Yes — even on vacation!
