We have an important update regarding access to future Furality Online Xperience conventions.
Starting with our next convention, all attendees will be required to be 18+ and age-verified through VRChat by June 4th, 2026.
Age verification is a VRChat platform feature. While it is normally included with VRChat+, VRChat will provide free age verification as part of your Access Pass to our next convention, even if you are not a VRChat+ subscriber. Attendees who register with vouchers from friends, our hardship program, or through event participation will also receive free VRChat age verification.
As Furality has grown into a large-scale online event with tens of thousands of attendees from many regions, it has become increasingly important for us to set clear, enforceable attendance expectations. During the main convention, activities take place across thousands of simultaneous VRChat instances, making it impractical to ensure every space can be directly staffed by moderators at all times.
We also anticipate that age verification will, at some point, become a platform standard for large events, either through social expectations or legal requirements. We don’t know if a platform requirement will happen before our next event or not, but we want to minimize possible disruption due to a major change like this in the middle of an event cycle.
VRChat’s age verification system allows us to apply a consistent, platform-level safeguard across the entire event, regardless of instance size or location. This helps create a more predictable and sustainable environment for attendees, reduces reliance on after-the-fact moderation alone, and allows us to operate responsibly as online age-related regulations and expectations continue to evolve globally.
It’s important to note what this change does not affect. We are not changing our policies around content, behavior, or avatars. Furality Online Xperience remains a public, platform-partnered event, and all VRChat Terms of Service continue to apply. An 18+ attendance requirement does not mean explicit or inappropriate content will be permitted.
Other Furality-run activities, such as Club F.Y.N.N. Replay events, public-access Dealer’s Den previews, and Supporter Meetups, operate at a much smaller scale and within a limited number of hosted instances. These events can be fully staffed by our moderation team and will therefore not be subject to the same 18+ age verification requirement.
We are announcing this change ahead of registration opening so that no existing attendees are affected. In the event that an attendee is unable to complete VRChat’s age verification process due to technical issues, they will unfortunately be unable to attend Furality Online Xperience; however, we have a process in place to ensure affected ticket holders can receive a full refund.
We understand this will be disappointing news for community members who are currently under 18. We value younger members of the furry community and recognize how important inclusive online social spaces can be. While Furality Online Xperience will move to an 18+ verified model, we look forward to welcoming back any previous attendees once they are able to verify as 18+ on VRChat.
