CLOSURE NOTICE

In the most recent poll, out of 64 members, only 18 voted. There just isn't enough interest to continue the comm., even though the majority response from members who did vote was that they'd been busy over the holidays and would now be ready to participate.

I'm glad we got the chance to wind the comm down properly and I hope you all enjoyed it while it lasted. I've valued the chance to try my hand at moderating and have learnt such a lot in the short space of time doing so. Thank you to all of you for your patience with my learning curve, and to everyone who participated in the challenges.

Special thanks should go to the team mods, wildalyss, vanima_luhta, outoftime, noctems, kissingdaylight, and juliet42 .Also, to killmotion for starting this comm in the first place.

If anyone wants to make banners for surviving/having fun at/winning at Fullerverse, please feel free to post them as comments to this post. I know some of you (me included) like to add them to your profile.

Despite the initial interest, no one wanted to do the vid challenge :(
This means that the last event was voting on the poll. This earned extra points as follows:

I'm having some issues with BAM video vault - not only did it let me set up an account but not then allow me to sign back into it, when I logged back into my home pc I managed to completely mess up another account that I was logged into at that time. (note to self: always remember to log out of sites when I'm finished with them!)
What I need is for someone else to volunteer to set up a free email account and use that to sign up to BAM with an easy to remember password. We can then use that for everyone to submit their videos to.

PICSPAM entries are due by midnight on Tuesday 8th and we've only had one (really excellent) entry. No voting but participation points are up for grabs.

VIDDING CHALLENGE is due Sunday 27th December midnight your time; I'm not going to be mean about timing over the holiday season. Make a video between 2 and 5 minutes in length; Must be Fullerverse related but the theme is up to you; 50 points for participation; Details on where to upload will be finalised later (I will probably have to set up a BAM account we can all access). What is whedonland about?
It's an interactive community, with a sense of competition. You will be placed in one of the four teams, each corresponding to a Joss whedon show. You will compete against the other teams and will win the apocalypse by having the most points when the end of the apocalypse is announced (an apocalypse runs for three months).

What are the teams?
the actives (dollhouse) - proudly morally grey
the browncoats (firefly) - big damn heroes
the fang gang (angel) - helping the helpless
the prophecy girls (buffy) - nothing they can't face (except maybe bunnies)
Your team may have in-team only activites, send reminders about challenges, set up hint threads, and generally make sure you get to have fun and know how to get along in whedonland

What team will I be in? Can I choose?
Yes and no, the mods try to keep the team numbers even to make it a fair fight, so you will hopefully have your first choice, but you may get put into another team.

Also, you are not limited to your team when participating in a challenge. You can be an active and make Buffy icons, write a Firefly Fic, make an Angel-centric vid, and so on - and while he doesn't have his own team (he is, as someone wisely pointed out, our Switzerland) Dr Horrible is fair game for Whedonland activities :)

How do I get points?
A number of ways...you can particpate in the icon communities, complete trivia games, write fic, and other assorted tasks that will come up. Particpation gets you points, winning gets you more points, even voting on the wonderful creations members come up is worth points.

Each team will also have in-team activities and fun of their own! There may be a requirement in your team for minimum participation - usually one thing every couple of weeks will count, as simple as voting, picking an item in a luck game, or creating one icon. If you are going on hiatus or are having other issues though, just let your team leader know - they're really very reasonable people :)

Fullerverse trivia and scavenger hunt: Team Games Challenges part one

How about some team games? Two other popular ideas for games were for trivia questions and scavenger hunts. However I'm too ~~busy~~ ~~lazy~~ unselfish to write all the questions/lists myself – you can join in the fun :)

For this first part of these challenges you will earn points by working as a team.
For the second part of these challenges you will earn points by working alone.

You have until Tuesday the 8th December to write and submit the scavenger hunt list items chosen by your team to this post (11:55 pm GMT; 6:55 pm EST; Wednesday 9th 10:55 am EDT)

You have until Wednesday the 9th December to write and submit your team's trivia questions to this post (11:55 pm GMT; 6:55 pm EST; Thursday 10th 10:55 am EDT)

Here's how I propose it works:

TRIVIA QUIZ

PART ONE

I will write 7 questions for the trivia quiz.

Each team should set up a thread in their team comm and decide upon 7 questions to pose to the other teams; one should be true/false and one should be a multiple choice option. The other five can be open/any style. Be as obscure as you like; as long as the questions relate to Fullverse in some way the sky is the limit. You are not limited to asking questions about your team's show. There are some examples below.

Once finished, one person from each team will post the finished list (*with* answers, please!) to the screened comments below (Trivia questions) along with the team name.

PART TWO

I will gather up the questions and re-post them. Each team now has 21 questions to answer (out of the 28, because you won't be answering those you made up)

Each team member can then individually answer as many of the 21 questions as they can and submit their entry to gain points

Points for the Trivia Quiz will be as follows

PART ONE
Submitting 7 questions as a team – 20 points
Submitting less than 7 questions as a team – 10 points
If less than 7 questions are submitted by a team, the other teams will be awarded extra points for any questions that are missing; for example, if a team only submits 5 questions, the extra 4 points that should have been available will be automatically awarded as correct answers to the other 2 teams' members who submit an entry

PART TWO
Submitting 21 correct answers – 45 points (2 per question + bonus 3 points)
Submitting some correct answers – up to 40 points, awarded at 2 points per correct answer

SCAVENGER HUNT

PART ONE

I will write a list of 7 Fullerverse related items; there will be 5 pictures/icons with 2 other items such as a video or other non-graphical item to find.

In your teams compile a list of 7 Fullerverse related items (the shows, the actors, the creator, etc); one item may be a "find a video of" or other non-image item. I've given some examples below; be creative (but within reason; your team must be able to find evidence that the item exists!) and keep it clean (shirtless pictures but not full nudity, for example!). Icons, wallpapers, and photo-manips count as images.

PART TWO
Again, I will compile a list (one per team that excludes their items) and each team member tries to find urls of the items on the list. Points are gained by finding urls of each item.

Points for the Scavenger hunt

PART ONE
Submitting 7 items as a team – 20 points for the team
Submitting less than 7 items as a team – 10 points for the team
(again, the other teams will receive the points for any "missing" items)

PART TWO
Submitting a completed scavenger hunt list - 45 points (2 per item + bonus 3 points)
Submitting an incomplete list – up to 40 points, awarded at 2 points per item

Due Dates for Challeges update

The WALLPAPER CHALLENGE has been extended (since I've only had 2 entries and one polite request for an extension); consider it a thanksgiving gift if you're in the US. The new date is Sunday 29th November; let's call it 6pm wherever you are, and on Monday I'll get the voting up if we've got enough entries. [the two entries that were on time will receive 2 bonus points each though :)]

The VIDDING CHALLENGE by popular demand, will close on 27th December; again, if there are enough entries for voting, these will go up shortly afterwards. I'll make a reminder with the full rules/details for the vid challenge next week. Thanks to those who voted on the poll; I'm hoping we get at least 4 vids from the interest shown.

Challenge 10 - Vid - outline and poll

Sorry I haven't been around for a couple of days. I did want to get this challenge up a bit sooner; it was another popular choice in the poll. I'm concerned about giving everyone enough time to complete it as making a vid is usually a time-consuming task and 28 days puts it practically at Yule and Christmas. I was hoping to keep that time free for social posts.

Overwhelmingly, people wanted more graphics challenges. We had an icon challenge not too long back, so let's go for a wallpaper challenge!
Closing date is Thursday 26 November at 9pm GMT (4pm EST, Friday 27th 8 am EST)

The wallpaper must be fullerverse related

Challenge 6 Haiku results

It was supposed to be 40 points for first place, 30 for second, 20 for third, I believe. Well all the first place winners got the same number of votes and were one point clear above the rest in their category, and all the second place winners were a tie. The rest of the entries were all then tied or one point off. So I'm going give all the remaining entries a bonus 12 points instead of awarding third place (because otherwise we'd have 2, 3 or 4 third places in the various categories and that just seems silly)

Challenge 7 - points

Okay, time to give out points for the jigsaw. HOWEVER

While I specified that you should change the difficulty level to 6x6, some of you didn't do this. Furthermore, because I didn't specify I needed to see the difficulty level (under the pic) or at least the url (which included this information) I got some screencaps where I couldn't tell if the difficulty level had been changed. Finally, I got one screencap which did include the url and plainly showed the difficulty level had not been changed!

Now, I blame myself for not insisting on the url being visible. I'm chalking it up to mod inexperience. Next time I ever run a game, I'll know to take such precautions and anyone not playing by the rules will be disqualified from that challenge.

However since I must take the blame, and I'm trying to be fair here, I'm going to award extra points like so:

Thanks to everyone who has voted on the poll; the more votes the better :)
In the meantime, here's a new game which I'm shamelessly snagging from merlin_land, it's a challenge where everyone can benefit!
You can earn up to 20 points. Closing date is Wednesday 25th November, 11am GMT (6 am EST, 10pm EDT)

How it works/points

You can rec one, two, or three items that relate in some way to the fullerverse.
It can be fic, icons, wallpapers, macros, fanvids, fanmixes, episode reviews, picspams, comms, or anything you that you think everyone should know about.
You get two points for a rec (title, author, url)
You get three additional points for giving the reason(s) why you're recommending it.

That's 15 points up for grabs.

Bonus Points
You can also rec one additional item that is only slightly related to fullverse. It can be a movie, tv series/episode, book, graphic novel, song, whatever. For example, did a fullerverse actor amaze you when they appeared as lead in a movie playng a very different sort of character? Did you spot a fullverse actor doing a guest spot that made an in-joke about their fullverse character? Did one of the writers for a fullerverse show pen a great graphic novel?
You get two points for the rec (what it is, no url required)
You get another two points for explaining why it's relevant and why it's being recommended
You get one extra point for giving an url to a resource where we can see more information about your rec; a Youtube fanvid or promotional clip, an Amazon book review, an LJ critical review, even a TV.com or Wiki page will count for this.

quick update

As you've probably noticed, I'm trying out a new comm layout; love it? Hate it? Let me know…it might change a bit more now I'm over my initial fear of OMG css!! Thanks to nowgold and kissingdaylight for their help, and minty_peach for the layout template, and a comment at a post by misery_chick which managed to explain to a layout newb like me what I was doing wrong…

I'm also sorting out team members; I've pm'd some people who were on the team list post but seemed to have left, and I've issued invites to the last few people who were waiting to join the comm. Again, I'll try and update the team list post at some point.

I'm putting up the haiku voting shortly; this should be the last of the outstanding challenges and so I'll try and get some more sorted out - ideas welcomed :)

Community adoption

I am terribly sorry for putting this off for so long. I feel really guilty for letting this community die so early on. It started out as being a day or two behind counting votes and then I just kinda gave up. You can rightfully call me a flake if you wish. I think me jumping on the land/verse bandwagon just wasn't a good idea for me. I can be a member well enough in comms but I'm not good as a head moderator.

If you feel you can do the job even marginally better than I, comment here if you wish to run it. Once it's handed off, it's all yours and I won't be around for any questions as it will be wholly yours.

Welcome to fullerverse, a challenge community dedicated to Bryan Fuller's projects: Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, and Wonderfalls!

Capitalizing on the idea installed by whedonland, which spawned a few other communities, I thought why not one for the quirky universe Mr. Fuller created?
