Question:
Our answer:
WorldCat allows you to search library collections worldwide and find important details for an ILL request, such as the OCLC number. Including the OCLC number helps ensure your request is processed quickly and for the correct edition.
Find an OCLC number in WorldCat
To begin, go to OCLC WorldCat Discovery.
Select the appropriate option from the Search index menu, enter known information (such as title or ISBN) in the relevant Search terms field, and click Search at the bottom of the page.
The results page will display records that match your search criteria. For book requests, select the record with the format type "Print Book." The OCLC number will differ between eBooks and print books, so be sure to choose the correct format.
Select the title to open the item record, then scroll to view additional details, including the OCLC Number/Unique Identifier.
Tips for selecting the correct record
In general, items held by more libraries are easier to obtain.
To see how many libraries hold a copy of the material, go to the Other Availability & Holdings section and click the "Other Libraries Worldwide" button. This will open a side panel showing the libraries that own the item.
To view other editions and formats, continue scrolling past the item record details to the bottom of the page. This section lists other editions, formats, and availability information at a glance.
NOTE: Select holdings available in the U.S. when possible.
If the item is only available internationally, consider requesting a scan of the portion you need or contacting your subject librarian to explore alternative access options.
