start by taking your picture, re-size it, paste it on the 100x100 image and place it the way you want it. You can either sharpen it now or at the end. My base looks like this

(only use this step, if your base is too dark)
before we work on the coloring, we're gonna have to lighten the whole picture up. For that go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Brightness/Contrast
Brightness: +54
Contrast: +26
Change the settings till they fit your picture
Go to New Adjustment Layer > Selective Color,
Reds: -100, +24, +36, -29
Neutrals: -13, -5, +4, 0
open a New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance, Opacity 72%
Shadows:
Midtones: 25 , +1 , -22
Highlights: -16 , 0 , -11
this will give it a redish/yellowish color.

Since its too yellow for my liking I added a New Adjustment Layer > Photofilter
Choose Cyan. This will reduce the yellow colors a little bit but, unfortunately, also give the picture a kind of dull look.
To bring out the color a bit add a New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation
Standard: 0, +17, 0
Since I want the outcome to have a bit of a blue-ish coloring to it, I added a New Adjustment Layer > Solid Color, Opacity 60% with the color #7d8cd5. Set the solid color layer to overlay. Depending on how much blue you want in your picture change the color.

Due to the blue solid color layer the reds are not as dominant as before. To add them to the picture again add a New Adjustment Layer > Selective Color
Reds: -59, +16, +3, -4

Still a bit dark for my liking. Add a New Adjustment Layer > Solid Color, Opacity 25% with the color #dac2b4. This will lighten the whole picture up. Change the opacity till it fits your picture.
Since I wanted to enhance the contrast I added a New Adjustment Layer > Photofilter, Opacity: 55%
Choose Coldfilter (80).
You can either leave it like that, but I wanted just a tiny bit of magenta in it, so I added another New Adjustment Layer > Photofilter, Opacity 35%
Choose Magenta.
and you're done

please comment when you take the PSD. since it takes some time to write a tutorial, I don't think it's too much to ask that you take a sec and let me know that you liked and downloaded it, otherwise I will not be offering PSD's in the future. Thanks
not every image is the same, so just play around with the different settings, add new layers or delete some till it fits your image. just copying all layers onto another picture rarely works.
hope that was understandable. if anyone has any questions don't hesitate to ask :)
