1. take your picture, re-size it, paste it on the 100x100 image and place it the way you want it:

2. go to Image -> Adjustments -> Auto Levels

3. duplicate your base and set it on screen 50% opacity

4. add a color balance layer
SHADOWS: 20 42 38
MIDTONES: -8 2 19
HIGHLIGHTS: 7 -23 -32

5. add a selective color layer
REDS: -100, 27, 100, 0
YELLOWS: 43, 0, 2, 0
NEUTRALS: +18, -13, -31, 16

6. add a curves layer
RGB:
I 93, O 117
RED:
first point: I 76, O 86
second point: I 155, O 177
BLUE:
first point: I 91, O 81
second point: I 151, O 166

you can stop here, but I wanted the icon to be a little sharper

7. create a stamp of all the visible layers (control+alt+Shift+e) and go to filter -> sharpen -> sharpen.

8. since it looked too pixely now, I used the blur tool and used it on the face

and you're done :)

if your picture turns out too redish/magentaish (or too much of another color) you could either play around with the selective color layer, try some variations or add a photofilter (before the color balance).
that usually works for me ;)

new layout and header

so, I got myself a new layout (thanks to minty_peach) and a new header. I was kinda sick of the dark layout and thought I'd go for something lighter this time and just fell in love with this one. I like the simpleness of it.
and I took some pictures of a couple of flowers in our garden today and just had to use one of them for my new header. gives me kind of a spring-feeling lol

this is what happens when you're waiting at uni for the lecture to start and you have your book and your camera with you ;)

this has got to be THE best dessert ever. it's called "kaiserschmarrn" and it's a typical austrian dessert. I'm not sure if it's exactly the same but it's kinda like chopped pancake with icing sugar. so if you ever come to ausria you have got to try it lol

well...not much to say about those pictures. all those bottles at one place looked just too crazy to not take a picture

take your picture, re-size it, paste it on the 100x100 image and place it the way you want it.

3.
create a new color balance layer, opacity 65%, using this settings:
midtones: +7, -23, +12
shadows: -27, +20, +9
highlights: -24, +8, +18

4.
create a new fill layer, # 4b2a14, Exclusion, 35%

5.
create a selective color layer
settings:
red: -100, +35, -23, 0
yellow: +35, 0, -100, 0
white: 0, -17, -12, 0
neutrals: -8, +25, +23, -10
black: 0, 0, 0, +10

create another selective color layer
setting:
