Each year, Friends of Sullivan funds several important events:
Student Success FundGifts to Friends of Sullivan support and enhance the curricular and extra-curricular opportunities for all students at Sullivan. Past gifts have supported the creation of the Ellen Glasser Global Center (a place where all students can gather, newcomers can share their stories and build friendships), our sports teams, special class projects and trips, the arts and all-school events. These gifts allow Sullivan teachers and staff to go beyond in personalizing learning for our students.
Project Goal - $50,000

Sullivan HS College Startup FundThe Friends of Roger C. Sullivan College Startup Fund provides an opportunity for applicant students to receive post-secondary financial assistance as they transition to college. Students may use the funds for transportation to school, boarding costs, program fees, supplies or even something as basic as setting up their dorm room! This Fund provides our students with the financial resources to achieve their dreams of college and career.
Project Goal - $25,000
Project Deadline - June 30, 2026

For several years now, Sullivan has had its students with an interest in business participate in the Future Business Leaders of America program, a national program designed to promote entrepreneurship among high school youth. In 2025, the Sullivan team performed well at State, with several first place finishes, and five students qualifying for Nationals. Sending the team to state and National tournaments costs funds, which CPS only partially covers. FOS asks community and alumni to support this worthwhile initiative.
Project Goal - $5,000
Project Deadline - June 30, 2026![]()

Dear Friend of Roger C. Sullivan High School;

Mike Glasser, PresidentThe Rogers Park community is enriched with the presence of a special high school. Through our work, we can make it even better.
Since 2017, the Principals serving Sullivan High School have worked with our dedicated Board to create a vehicle through which alumni, community members, and foundations can help support the students at Sullivan. As a result, Friends of Roger C. Sullivan has done much to help improve the school, including:
Helping transform a tired and worn library with outdated books and no librarian into a vibrant “welcoming center” for the schools' vibrant refugee and immigrant population. With our student population consisting of students from over 50 countries and over 40 languages spoken, a learning space where students can feel safe and secure - where they can engage in productive one-on-one meetings, or simply hang out with friends- has enriched their experiences immeasurably.
Assist Sullivan recruitment efforts by running an annual “Martin Luther King Day” basketball tournament for local middle school youth. Soon to be expanded to an invitational tournament for boys and girls, the boys' tournament in previous years has provided local youth with a fun and exciting day-long tournament where they learn sportsmanship, hone their skills, and, between games, engage in educational experiences to learn more about the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King.
Annual Thanksgiving Tournament for Refugee/Immigrant populations. Many of Sullivan’s students know little about our quintessential American holiday. Held a week or so prior to Thanksgiving, our student-led Thanksgiving Celebration provides a chance for our English Learner population to share with the Rogers Park community all for which they are thankful.
Annual College/Career Start-Up Fund - Provide annual scholarships to deserving graduating seniors needing financial assistance as they transition to college or a career. These funds - whether used for lodging, travel costs, purchase tools or simply money to set up their new dorm rooms, prove essential as they set forth with a challenging new experience.
There is so much more that Friends of Sullivan does - and will be called upon to do in the future.
We seek your assistance - either through participation in a subcommittee or with your financial support. Please help us continue to transform Roger C. Sullivan High School into a state-of-the-art high school.
Sincerely;
Friends of Roger C. Sullivan High School

P.S. Click here to see a few of my personal experiences with Friends of Sullivan. Participating on the FOS Board has offered me an opportunity to interact with many appreciative students and as much as these students may suggest that I have impacted their lives, they have also enriched my life as well.
