Can someone help?

This is more or less a request that came out of frustration, since after numerous tries of creating it myself it still won't work, so i've given up. Still have a lot of layout learning to do. In meanwhile I wondered if someone could make me a layout using these pics?

Tutorial: PS 6.0, brushes, coloring, good for beginners

We are going to make this icon:

This tutorial is VERY DETAILED for BEGINNERS who might not be very familiar with Photoshop.

I have provided LOTS OF PICS and LOTS OF SCREENSHOTS so that anyone can follow along.

AREAS COVERED:

- Cropping
- Preparing a Base
- Coloring
- Saving brushes from .jpg files
- Brushwork

In this tutorial I am going to show you how to crop and prepare a base. Plus I will show you how to create brushes and how to change coloring of an icon.

First let's crop and prepare our base.

Section 1: Preparing our base

Step 1: Make sure you go to View->Proof Set->Monitor to ensure your icon won't look too dark when you are finished.

Step 2: Let's crop our picture.

* Choose the marque tool and make sure it is on "Contrained Aspect Ratio." This will ensure that your icon will remain square. (SCREENSHOT HERE

* Now select an area of the picture you want make as an icon. I like to keep Anne sort of off to the side.

* Go to View->Actual Pixels

* As you can see it is quite large. We need to shrink down this picture. Go to Image->Image Size and Make the picture 200 x 200

Step 3: Smoothing & Sharpening

* This is what we should have right now: A 200x200 picture of Anne

* Go to Filter->Sharpen->Sharpen

* Repeat the sharpen again. We have now sharpened the picture twice:

* Choose the blur tool (it looks like a drop of water) and make sure the settings are at 40% (SCHREENSHOT)

* Using a soft round brush (the circular brush with fuzzy edges) that is about 9 pixels in size...I smooth out the skin on Anne's face and chest but I avoid her eyes, mouth and hair. I also avoid her nostrils. If you blend too much just go to Edit->Step Back until you can start over again. You might want to enlarge the picture (zoom in) to make sure you get everwhere. When you are done...this is what we have:

* Go to Filters->Sharpen->Sharpen (yes it does look weird after you do this but don't worry):

* Go to Image->Image Size->100 x 100: Now our icon is the right size...has smooth skin and sharp eyes!

* Our base is complete! Now...LET'S MAKE THAT ICON!

Section 2: Icon Coloring

Step 1: Duplicate your base. Go to Layer->Duplicate Layer

Step 2: Set the layer right above the layer labeled "background" to Screen at 45-50% opacity (adjust to your liking). (SCREENSHOT)

Step 3: Duplicate your background layer again and drag the duplicate to the top. Set this to Soft Light between 50-55%. (SCREENSHOT)

Step 4: Create a blank new layer. Layer->New Layer

Step 5: Click on the paintbucket on your tools window. Click on the two square for color selection on the tool menu. The color picker window should open up. Now, at the bottom right hand side you should see a # and a box of number and letters. In that box type: 0C083D and press okay. One of the color swatches on your tool menu should now be a very dark blue. (SCREENSHOT)

* Now put the painbuckut over Anne and click. The picture should turn totally dark blue. Go to the layers window and change the mode to "Difference." And keep the opacity at 100%

Step 6: Go to Layer->New Layer and click on the color swatches again so that the color picker window opens up. Next to the # symbol type: F7E6CA and fill the picture with this color using the bucket. Your picture should look totally tan.

* Got to the layers window and turn the tan layer mode to "Multiply."

Our coloring is done...now we get to enhance our icon with brushes.

Section 3: Brushes

Step 1: How to load a brush into Photoshop (and probably other programs).

* Right click and "save picture as" for the brush below. Save it somewhere on your computer where you can find it easily.

* In Photoshop go to File->Open and open the brush you just downloaded.

* Go to Edit->Define Brush (SCREENSHOT)

* You should now have a nifty brush that we can use to enhance our icon.

Step 2: Return to your Anne icon. Create a new layer. Layer->New Layer under the dark blue layer.

Step 3: Make sure that your chosen color is white and click on the paintbrush tool in your tools window. At the top of the screen you will see a drop down menu...select the brush we just made. (SCREENSHOT)

* Line up the brush on your icon and click. You should see the brushwork on the top of your icon.

* Go to Edit->Tranform->Rotate 90 degree CCW. Now you should see the brushwork on the left of the icon. (SCREENSHOT)

* Make the opacity 61% and using your eraser tool erase any brushwork on Anne's face.

Step 4: More brush work! Repeating the instruction in Step 1 make a brush out of this:

(IF YOU KNOW WHO MADE THIS LET ME KNOW)

*Don't worry about the black part. I will explain that in a minute.

Step 5: Make a new layer right under the dark blue layer and fill it using the paintbucket tool with white.

Step 6: Click on your eraser tool on the tools menu. On the top of the screen click on the drop down brush menu and choose the brush we just made. Also, make sure the opacity of the eraser (not the layer) is set to 95%. (SCREENSHOT)

* Now position the eraser over the icon and make sure the eraser brush is centered and that it is over lapping the top or bottom. When you have centered the brush click your mouse and all that should be left is a grungy border. Set the layer opacity to 41% and the mode should be normal.

*We are almost done!!!

Step 7: Using the instruction in Step 1 make the following into a brush:

Step 8: Create a new layer Layer->New Layer and make sure it is at the very very top.

Step 9: Click on your color swatches and in the color picker window next to the # symbol type: F4E8BD

Step 10: Choose your paintbrush tool and make sure the "A" brush you just made is chosen. Position the brush on your icon where you want it. (SCREENSHOT)

Step 11: Once you've put the brush on the icon...use your eraser tool (using a round brush) and erase any of the print that is over Anne's hair or face.

Step 12: Set the layer opacity to 78%.

YOU ARE DONE!!!!

Go to Layer->Merge Visable then "save as" and there you go! You made an icon!
