2. This challenge is a little different that previous ones. Instead of giving you a choice of four fandoms, we're opening up the fandom to what TV.com considers a DRAMA show. As an example, see here. Under the Show Categories heading, CSI:NY is primarily considered a Drama. Whatever the site lists as secondary or tertiary means nothing. As long as the primary category is Drama then you may use it in this challenge. Don't assume your show is a Drama unless TV.com says it is. That's the restriction!

3. You must write a fic using your chosen Drama fandom and the prompt given to you. The prompts are one liners or full on conversations from COMEDY tv shows and movies. See what we did there? Aren't we clever! You can use the prompt in its entirety or use only part of it to inspire you. Please do not use the prompt to think of another one from the prompt's origin. That's cheating.

Fire and Ice

Angela found the idea of a last meal foolish.

There would not be much dignity in death, that she knew for sure, but at least she wouldn't be covered in the regurgitated remnants of an overcooked steak or some supposed comfort food upon taking her last breath. And the concept of looking for a last moment of pleasure escaped her as well. What would it really matter?

How could anyone choke it down in the first place?

But her throat was dry from the brutal winter air outside, and she took her coat off and made her way into the kitchen, absent-mindedly grabbing a pitcher from the back of the refrigerator and pouring herself glass of lemonade. When she brought it to her lips it was warm, and the sugar cloying on her tongue. Her lips pursed as she swallowed her first sip, and she stared at the glass with no small amount of disdain, her reflection warbling as it returned her gaze.

She set the glass down on the counter. Nathan must have left the fridge's door open again -- which she found somewhat surprising, as she would have figured he would be beyond the point where he bothered to get some ice or a splash of water for his drinks by now. And it wasn't as if he was eating with any regularity.

But then again, she had not had a day's worth of proper meals lately either.

She glanced quickly around the room. Something she probably should have done upon entering the apartment -- checking under bed frames and in closets, behind the shower curtain and the long drapes in the dining room. But she didn't bother. She had not been the one of her bloodline cursed with the power of prognostication, but she could still see the inevitable when it was written in a familiar symbol across her face. There was no point in ripping a hole in a perfectly good pair of pantyhose looking for a bogeyman that would find her first.

For the moment, however, the coast appeared to be clear, and she brought one long finger, shaking slightly, to the rim of her glass. The weak condensation frosted immediately, crystalline patterns etching their way through the fog, as the lemonade chilled to somewhere just above the freezing point.

She'd broken a lot of glasses, when she first came into her power, but she'd achieved a high level of precision long ago.

Picking up the glass again, she almost spilled the contents down the front of the blouse when a voice boomed out from the archway entrance at the far side of the room.

"I would have figured you for a glass of wine, a nice Burgundy maybe." Footsteps approached her, but Angela didn't look up. "Aren't you going to offer an old friend a drink?"

"You can help yourself on the way out."

"Good to see you haven't changed," the man replied with a cheery lilt to his tone, and she finally took her eyes off the counter and looked the intruder in his eyes.

"Thomas," she greeted him with a faint nod of her head. "Or what is it you're going by now? Takezo?"

Kenzei smiled at her brightly.

"Either is fine. Japanese is an absolute bitch of a language to pick up, by the way. Next time you banish a bloke, do them a favor and at least send him to Australia."

"I'll keep that in mind," she said dryly, and Kensei laughed.

"I assume from your oh-so-pleasant and lovely greeting that you got my message?"

Some of her lemonade kicked back into her throat.

"Kaito?"

He shrugged. It was done.

"And that's how you got back, I assume. That idiot son of his. Did you kill him as well?"

"I'll have you know that I did not," he said a bit haughtily as he took another step forward. "I've got plans for him. Shame that your son's still not around, I'm sure I could have used him as well. Terrible about what that bastard Sylar did to him. Of course, I'm more upset that he tried to steal my act."

"You son of a--"

"Hey now. You can't blame me for that one, I wasn't even here. And if that thieving little twit hadn't killed James Walker, I wouldn't even be here bothering you."

"If you know so much, why Kaito then?"

"Oh, that. Well, I'm just lazy, and he was a bit of an asshole. So stern, could never take a joke. The only one out of the whole lot of you that did was Linderman really, and he seems to have fallen off the grid already. Although he's always been a bit of a bad penny, I'm expecting him to reappear. But once I kill this Sylar nuisance, I don't think I'll have a problem with dear old Daniel."

"Sylar's dead."

"No, love, he's not. Neither is your son."

Her mouth fell open, and she quickly shut it again, but the moment of vulnerability had been laid bare all the same.

"You mean Nathan. I know he's not dead, not yet anyway."

"No, I meant the pretty one. You know, he would have been handy to have around these past few years, a gorgeous little nurse like him could have made me a lot of money. Ancient samurai warlords really are filthy perverts of the worst kind."

Angela stopped for a minute, swallowing hard at the flush of hot tears at the corners of her eyes. There was no time for sentimentality now, now that there was a strain of hope to fight for, foolish as it was. With Kensei standing just behind the corner of the kitchen island between them, she lunged forward, but the hard edge of the counter top just caught her side, and she only caught one half of his body, her hands missing his neck and instead latching on to his upper arm. The tissue immediately froze, and he howled out in pain, but quickly spun and grabbed her by the throat, lifting her up from the floor and with two quick steps pinning her, by the neck, to the refrigerator door.

She made a few involuntary choking sounds, as he stared into her eyes, mirth still glimmering inside them despite the darkness of their reflection.

"Ouch," he deadpanned.

She had a few choice words for him then, but they were cut off by the pressure on her windpipe. Her arms flailed around, trying to grab any part of him that she could, but when she realized she somehow couldn't touch him, she realized Kenzei had already gotten to more than just Kaito Nakamura. If he had killed the entire council, what hope was there left?

"Fine, fine, have your last words," Kenzei said as he pulled his hand back just slightly, and she half-swallowed a massive rush of air as her lungs burned and her eyes finally did tear.

"Peter..." she choked out. "Don't..."

"I said I would kill Sylar first at least, lord, Angie, always such an ingrate." At the flash of pain in her eyes, he smirked. "Tell you what, I'll give you a choice. I can either kill Peter, and let Nathan live -- of course, he'll die soon enough anyway along with everyone else -- or I can reunite them and kill them together, what do you think?"

Last meal or no, she was distinctly close to vomiting, still struggling to breathe and beginning to lose the battle of consciousness. She jerked her body one more time, hard, but Kenzei slammed her back against the door, and she knew it was the end. She looked him right in the eyes, nestled on the same baby face from years ago -- and in his eternal youth, there were all the mistakes of her own, the struggle of her life and the others played out to endgame right in front of her. There was no other answer.

"Together," she wheezed, as Kenzei tilted his head and smiled.

"It's a promise," he whispered into her ear.

Then with one swift move, he broke her neck.

So it would be done.

2: Go have some ice cream because it's bloody hot out.

3: Now comes the work. You must write a fic using the prompt you are given. This is a Music challenge and so your prompt might be a line from a song, a picture of an album cover, a music video, a quote from a musical artist, or an entire album that you can draw inspiration from. If you write a fic with the characters hearing the lines in their heads, or singing the lines, or if you just write out the entire song line by line every few paragraphs, I will have to kill you. That's a bastardisation of filkfic and must be avoided. Actually, all filkfic must be avoided anyway.

You can use the prompt in its entirety, use only part of it, use it to inspire you to think of something else. We don't care how you use it, just use it. And you must write a fic in one of the four following fandoms ONLY: Harry Potter, West Wing, Prison Break, or Heroes. Feel free to do crossovers but only within these fandoms.

4: Your fic must be posted between September 1 and September 8, 2007. If you can't post it by then, you might as well give up on life because that's a long time in the future and if you cannot get your act together by then you should ask yourself if you really want to sign up for this.

NOTES: sad/angsty, just what I came up with due to my prompt. All errors are mine.

This was the worst case in the history of Sara Sidle. It was the worst case in the history of the entire night shift/swing shift/ and once they got word- day shift crew of CSIs, lab techs. Anyone and everyone involved with the case would agree to the same thing. This must have been the worst case in the history of the LVPD. Five-year-old quintuplets murdered beginning at approximately 5:55 a.m.

It had been a relatively good evening. Sara had gotten up, gotten dressed, met Gil (she was still having trouble calling him Gil) for dinner at the diner near the lab and they drove in to work together.

Greg and Warrick were playing a pre-shift game of basketball on the Playstation in the break room. Warrick was up by 6.

“Aww, no you don’t” Greg said competitively.

“You wish,” was the laid back response of his gaming partner.

Sara looked on as they played. Although she had no desire to play, she did appreciate the patience and skills of those who did. Gil was distributing assignments. Nothing major was happening tonight- a couple of B&E’s and a hit ‘n run. Grissom took the hit –and-run for himself, and left Sara to catch up on paperwork. It was shaping up to be a pretty hum-drum night, which was fine for Sara; there was plenty of paperwork to keep her company. She wondered who made up the processes and wanted to curse them for it. Unfortunately it was a necessary evil of the job. She had begun to daydream, looking forward to the end of shift when the call came in at 6:45 a. m.

Ecklie was all over it. He organized a phone tree. Every available person in the LVPD, was called back from whatever assignment. Everything else, all other cases from petty theft to murder one was on the backburner. The mayor wanted answers and he wanted them this minute today, this morning. A press conference was called. Suspected cultists, nothing was certain. It could have been a botched robbery.

The crime scene was brutal. Sara diligently took photos in the two bedrooms. Other CSIs were working the case in other rooms. This set of quintuplets was two girls and three boys, all fraternal. Sara was collecting hair samples as she went along. The bodies were removed after sufficient photos were taken.

The mother was staying with relatives and unavailable for comment at this time. Brass had done a preliminary interview, but as evidence was further processed, she would need to be interviewed again to corroborate her story. The father was nowhere to be found. He worked a night shift at a local 24 hour convenience store and often covered until the morning person arrived, gaining much needed overtime, considering. Catherine was in the lab examining the first roll of photos Sara took of the blood patterns and spatter.

Sara wiped her brow. It was hot outside, and the A/C had yet to kick in. Triple digits were the predicted high. Griss came up from behind, a sympathetic look in his eyes.

“I just spoke to David and Al. There were multiple stab wounds on all five bodies.”

“Warrick was examining the shoe prints outside in the bushes. It looks like an outside job,” Sara iterated an automatic response.

“Brass finally got a hold of the father, he had been in the café next door. He broke down in tears as soon as he heard.”

“It just makes you wonder who would do such a thing?” Sara asked the question on everyone’s mind.

“I don’t know, but we’ve racked up enough overtime. Ecklie says that day-shift is eager to get in on the case. We’re to log all evidence and turn it over.” Sara stood up and stretched, looking at her watch. She was surprised it was almost noon already.

“I don’t think I have any words for this, Gil.”

He gently squeezed her hand. “Go home. We’ll talk about it over breakfast.”

Sara ran a hot bath, and sat and thought about the photos she took, the hairs she collected and at the end of the day, those five beautiful children are still going to be gone, even if they find the perpetrator, it won’t bring those kids back from the dead. She began to cry. She mourned for them. They were innocent they didn’t deserve this. Humans were so awful to each other. Sara washed her face and got out of the tub.

She entered the kitchen and made herself a cup of tea and tried to relax from the stress of working the case. How could she go back? The faces of the children kept surfacing in her mind. It was enough to break a person. The poor mother. Sara went into the bedroom and soon dropped off to sleep.

At about 3 o’clock in the afternoon, Sara woke and heard Grissom come through the front door. He found her sitting up and joined her on the bed.

“I don’t think I can go back, Gil. This has been the worst case I’ve ever worked. This is the worst I’ve ever felt,” Sara lamented.

“Come what may, time and hour run through the roughest day.”

“Shakespeare?”

“MacBeth. Sara, you’ll get over this. It might take time, but you’ll get over it. You’ll never forget the case or how you felt while working it. It’ll stay with you, but you have to go on. This was the work of one person. Yes, those children were innocent, no you won’t forget them, but use the case. Make it a part of you. Let it help you grow. There’s not one person working this case who doesn’t feel the same way. You’re not alone, Sara. You might feel it, but you’re not alone, I’m here too.”

He kissed her chastely on the lips and went to take a shower. Sara snugged down into the covers feeling somewhat better. She was shaken, that went without saying, but it helped to know as Grissom pointed out that she wasn’t alone. Grissom snuggled up behind Sara and they both fell asleep that way.

Just before the alarm went off at a quarter to six, the house phone rang. It was Brass. They had in questioning an older teenage son from a previous marriage. His shoe prints matched the ones found at the scene. He was fourteen years old, a gang member. Everyone was innocent until proven guilty, but he had already lawyered up.

Sara looked back on her own childhood and winced. It wasn’t easy growing up these days. Groggily she got dressed, slowly getting ready for work. One step at a time. She could do this. Grissom got up and went into the kitchen, making ‘breakfast’ such as it was in the evening. She soon joined him.

“How are you feeling?” he asked.

“I think I can do this. I want to go in. I want to see what the evidence says.” She said determined.

“Okay. Let me know if you need a break.”

With breakfast over, and the dishes washed, they drove into work, the setting sun behind them.
