FP2030 envisions a world where:

• Modern contraceptive methods are available to anyone who wants to use them
• All individuals have the information and agency they need to make an informed decision about their own contraceptive use
• Health systems are sustainable and responsive to individuals’ contraceptive needs
• Policies support and enable access to voluntary modern contraception

To track progress in achieving this vision, we measure key progress indicators, including:

• Informed Knowledge & Autonomy to Exercise Rights
  Individuals have information about methods and side effects for a range of contraceptive choices and the ability to exercise their right to determine whether, when and how many children they want to have.
• A Supportive & Responsive Health Care System
  Responsive health systems equitably and sustainably provide high quality services and supplies for a range of contraceptive methods.
• Effective, Results-Driven Support for Countries & Partners
  Countries and partners have supportive policy, financing, and accountability environments that enable voluntary contraceptive use.

Policies, Financing, & Programs

Beyond the above indicators, there is still a need for improved measurements in many aspects of family planning. As the FP2030 family planning partnership evolves, the measurement agenda will include efforts to develop indicators to measure social and behavioral change; identity indicators at the supportive environment level for policy, financing, and accountability; better indicators for understanding fertility intentions and the desire to use conception; and improved measurements of rights and empowerment principles for family planning.

In addition to annual reviews, governments collaborate with Track20 throughout the year to identify weaknesses in their data systems and make changes or adopt tools that can help them better use their available data to actively assess progress.

In-country stakeholders convene annually to review family planning data. Meeting goals are two-fold:

• Ensure that the process remains country-driven
• Ensure stakeholders understand the data and progress, so that strategies can be adjusted as necessary

FP2030’s annual measurement reports offer a point-in-time assessment of global and regional family planning progress, including key data on population demographics, contraceptive practice and demand, pregnancy and fertility, supply chain, and financing for family planning.
