OOC // Permissions

Here are the general permissions for Mofunari (aka Ishida Mitsunari of Samurai Wariors 3). ♥ They will be changed if they need to be because of plotting and happenings, in which case I will update them as soon as it occurs to me that I... should. Yes.

[ SECTION A ]
Backtagging: Yes, yes and yes! I do this all the time.
Threadhopping: Why not? There might be times when it's not appropriate for you to jump in, but in those cases threads will be specifically labelled as private.
Fourth-walling: Sure! Considering he's based on a famous historical figure from Japanese history it's kind of inevitable, to some degree.
Device-hacking: Usually a yes. If it's really necessary for something to remain unhacked I'll mention as such within the post.

[ SECTION B ]
Fighting/Injury/Death: Well. In soul_campaign he has none of his musou and no real way to defend himself if he's stuck without back-up or meister. So, if you want to get stuck in a physical fight, contact me first. xD I seriously doubt he'd win and I don't want him getting really roughed up without knowing it's going to happen and talking it out with you first. No killing him at all, however. As for verbal fights... man, I ENCOURAGE those. Mitsunari needs to practise his epic snarking skills at any and all available opportunities.

Hugging/Kissing/Relationships: AHAHAHAHAHA GOOD LUCK WITH THAT. Hug or kiss him without warning and he will hit you. Or even with warning, if there's been no relationship development. He's big on personal space. You certainly have my permission to try either without my permissions, just be prepared for the consequences. 8'D However... if you want to try and develop a relationship with him, go ahead. My number one rule is 'go with what feels natural,' and if something happens over time, it happens. He will be difficult, but is fully capable of developing romantic relations with the right person. As for sexuality... judging from what we see in canon combined with the time period/place his canon is set, I'd say bisexual with strong tendancies towards other men. <strike>You should see him get all flustured when Muneshige teases him, it's pure hilarity.</strike>

Other Stuff: Mitsunari comes from his own Samurai Warriors 3 story, where he won the Battle of Sekigahara. That's important enough to mention here, I think. Otherwise... if you have any questions to ask me, or specific permissions you want to ask about, feel free to do so here! =3

This fits with how he looks as well.
Gender: Male
Fandom: Samurai Warriors 3
Timeline: Just after winning the Battle of Sekigahara, at the end of his story mode, but the night before his actual ending.
History:
His entry on the KOEI wiki

Character Personality:
Mitsunari is a very intelligent man. Naturally gifted in many areas, including mathematics, administration and politics, he is very proud of his capabilities and is never shy about showing this. Furthermore, he will often rise to the challenge should people question or outright verbally attack his capabilities (close friends, trusted allies and some family members excepted), striving to prove to them beyond any doubt that he can do it. Failure to do this is never something he takes well.

He is blunt, critical and slow to praise. All of these traits mean that he does not make friends easily at all, but makes enemies very quickly indeed. Despite this it is shown that he values the friends and family he does have very much, even if he does not express this sentiment very much, and when finding someone he considers to be truly talented he will offer them the respect they deserve. He is a little awkward when he does try to express his feelings and emotions to others, however, and does not deal with loss at all well. For a man who seems to care little about friendship on the surface, looking just below it reveals that he in fact depends very much on the support he gets from those who have made the effort to grow close to him.

It should be noted that there is something of an artistic side to him. He is known for his mastery of the tea ceremony, enjoys good music and likes to wear rather fancy (even showy) clothing, even in battle. Mitsunari can be somewhat vain at times, appreciating the fact that he is considered attractive to look at; whenever complimented on his looks, his reply is rarely modest.

He has a deep sense of honour; it was not something he was born with, but exposure to various warriors as he grew older and experienced more battles meant that his previously logical approach to battle became tempered by an honourable one. Doing things that he has come to believe are ‘morally incorrect’ is never acceptable in his eyes, which affects his way of approaching a battle. Ambushes, for example, are a big no-no. Other people frequently mock him for this belief, saying it is belongs to a long-gone age, but that does not sway him.

Mitsunari is fiercely loyal to the Toyotomi clan, never abandoning them for a moment and doing everything he does for their benefit (at least, what he thinks is for their benefit). Forming and taking up command of the Western Army was never something he planned to do, but he does so fervently for the sake of the clan that raised him and gave him a home. It also fits with his idea of what honour is; as far as he is concerned, the Tokugawa and their Eastern Army betrayed the Toyotomi and are therefore traitors and villains. This view means he ends up facing two people he considers family (Kiyomasa and Masanori), which hurts him deeply, but he does not falter. In his eyes, Hideyoshi and those of his bloodline are the only rightful rulers of the land, and he will do all he can to ensure that they remain in that position.

Character Abilities:
Mitsunari is an extremely intelligent man, and that intelligence is his greatest asset. He is shown to have particular skill in working with numbers and handling administrative tasks, as well as politics to a certain degree. When it comes to warfare he is also an able strategist and very capable of spotting talent in others, even where others might miss it (although his standards are quite high; not surprising, considering the talented people has lived beside his whole life).

In actual physical combat, Mitsunari is trained to use an iron-based folding fan (Tessen). With this he can bludgeon or slice at the enemy. He also has some ability in manipulating energy, and can unleash laserbeams and shockwaves as well as minor elemental attacks. In addition he is able to make and handle explosives, which he also utilises as weapons on the battlefield

Like all characters in the Samurai Warriors universe, he has access to ‘musou,’ a kind of battle magic which is different depending on who wields it. After being charged/built up for long enough it enables him to become invulnerable for a few seconds. makes him faster and also lets him use an extremely powerful attack with his fan that causes explosions all around him. When he is especially weakened the musou becomes more powerful and fire is added to the attack.

Character Weaknesses:
Physically, Mitsunari is not very strong at all. While he can fight, as explained in strengths, he will easily be overcome if he is cornered or cut off from his allies for too long. Battle for him involves finding the correct strategy and ordering his troops to do most of the actual combat; usually he will stay out of it unless pushed to delve deeper into enemy lines by absolute necessity or his own pride.

Speaking of which, that pride is a weakness. He will sometimes go out of his way to try and prove how ‘skilled and talented’ he is, even if that puts him in danger, and will not take failure well at all. In addition to this, his strong sense of honour and justice means that while he is an able strategist, he will often refuse to take the most effective route through a battle simply because he believes that doing so is dishonourable. This has actually caused him to lose battles before, which in turn hurts his pride further.

Being blunt by nature, and quick to criticise while slow to praise, means that he tends to offend people a lot. This also means that he does not make friends very easily, an obvious disadvantage to a man who ultimately depends on others for his personal safety (and emotional stability) in times of danger. Despite what he says there is plenty of indication that Mitsunari does not like to be alone, and he feels the loss of those he cares about very deeply, be it through death or circumstance driving them apart. Beneath the self-confident, cocky exterior is a vulnerable young man who has a hard time expressing and dealing with his feelings.

Two last things to note are that he has a habit of not sleeping or relaxing enough when there is a lot of work to be done (as demonstrated by several skits in the Empires games), and he is rather sensitive to the cold.

[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]

What are the abilities that your character will retain in Soul Campaign?
•	His intelligence and strategic abilities won’t be affected, of course.
•	The ability to use musou will not be retained at all, though aspects of it may be reflected in his abilities as a weapon.
•	His energy attacks will also not be retained.

What are the weaknesses that your character will lose or gain in Soul Campaign?
•	None of his canon weaknesses will be lost.
•	The loss of musou and energy-related abilities will affect his ability to defend himself further, making it harder for him to survive if he finds himself alone.

[ WEAPON ONLY SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Weapon:
He might be a commander, but he does not take the role because of a wish to gain power, or a desire to lead the way; he takes it up purely because he wishes to ensure his Lord Hideyoshi’s bloodline and legacy is kept safe. The duty he considers to be his is to protect and to fight on behalf of the Toyotomi, and it dictates the course of his life. This makes him far more suited to be a weapon than a meister.

What is your character's Weapon form?:
An iron folding fan, known as a ‘Tessen.’ The spokes are black. The cover is a light pink, adorned with a floral pattern in gold, and edged in gold as well. The colour scheme reflects his usual warderobe choices. The weapon itself is the same kind as the one he himself not only wields in battle, but carries outside of it (almost constantly, from the little we see of him away from war). Considering his attachment to Tessen, having it for his weapon form as well seemed a natural choice.

Abilities:
Mitsunari’s attack-based abilities are inspired by his musou and by his energy-releasing abilities. He cannot have an alternate form, considering his weapon type.

1.	This passive ability grants his meister skill with Tessenjutsu, the martial art required to wield a Tessen effectively; higher levels of resonance will result in higher levels of skill. Obviously, this ability is of no use to one already practised with the art, and one who does not truly desire to learn it will not be able to use it either.
2.	The meister can use Mitsunari to attack the enemy with a stream of soul energy; it can be likened to a laserbeam . This beam has a range of up to 10 metres and is approximately two inches thick. It cannot penetrate the bodies of enemies, but can do skin-level damage and stun weakened opponents. If used too often in succession it will cause both Mitsunari and his meister to grow tired.
3.	When resonance is high, and there is sufficient room to do so, Mitsunari can cause a ring of fiery explosions to set off outwards from himself and his meister at a distance of approximately three metres. These can damage with fire element and knock the affected enemies off their feet. This attack can be used no more than once every few hours, however, and any enemy standing inside of the ring will not be affected.

[ SOUL INFORMATION ]

Soul Description: Intelligent, honourable, critical, proud, blunt, vulnerable.

Soul Appearance:
His soul is a light pink colour, with a ‘tail’ resembling that of a fox. There are two little shapes resembling horns above his eyes.

[ SAMPLES ]

First Person:
[Mitsunari is staring into the screen, a frown gracing his features. The technology he now has to get used to is far beyond anything he has encountered in his era, and he is still getting used to it. This frustrates him, but at the same time, the value in a tool such as the communicator is obvious.]

I still do not like it here. My place is at Lord Hideyori’s side, fighting battles on his behalf.

[Bluntly put.]

But… it is a challenge, at the very least, and I will back down from no challenge. Doubtless it will not take me very long to find a suitable ‘meister.’

[What he won’t say is that he feels a little uncertain without the backing of an ally. Never in his life has he really been alone, and he doesn’t like it. Good luck ever getting him to admit that, though. There is a pause as he thinks on what else to say; finding a meister (and companionship) requires reaching out to others. About the only thing that comes to mind for the moment, and it is something he had thinking on for some time, is:]

Watching the network has revealed the presence of other samurai. I am curious, because many of you should be dead, and others… your names do not match the faces I associate with them. Speak with me, if you would. I wish to know whether you are the impostors logic says you must be, or something else.

Third Person:
Mitsunari stared into the candle flame.

They had done it. Despite the odds against them, the Western Army had managed to win the Battle of Sekigahara and ensure the future of the Toyotomi clan as leaders of their country. Treachery had brought them close to a loss, it was true, but they had worked past that. The loyal generals, the ones of true value, had secured their victory.

One more battle, a guaranteed win now, would end the threat of the Tokugawa and Ieyasu for good.

But he could not be happy. Not yet. Defeating the Eastern Army had also meant taking on and killing family. Kiyomasa and Masanori… the fools. They had truly believed that the only way for the Toyotomi to survive was to support Ieyasu! Their faith in Mitsunari and Lord Hideyoshi’s heir, Hideyori, had been so small that they could not trust in them to win control of the land back. They had thought it impossible to win.

They were fools. Complete fools. Fools who he would miss beyond words. Holding Kiyomasa as he died had been the most painful experience of Mitsunari’s life and he was sure it would haunt his dreams in the future. It almost made him question the choices he had made. If he had looked closely enough, would there have been another way of gaining victory without losing the men he had loved like brothers?

Shaking his head, the young man attempted to push his feelings aside and concentrate on the plans laid out before him. There was one more battle left before he could let himself think about it. He had to get through that first. For the sake of honour, the Toyotomi and the men and women who had placed their faith in him.

Minutes later, his head hit the table and the candle flickered out.

When he awoke, some time later, he immediately realised that something was wrong. It was dark, as it should be, but he was not in his own tent. The surface he was lying on was not right. It felt too smooth.

Mitsunari’s immediate thought was that he had somehow been captured by Ieyasu and been imprisoned. He had been safe within the Western Army camp when he had fallen asleep, his loyal and treasured retainer Sakon standing guard outside, so it should not have been possible, but no other explanation immediately came to mind. Wary, and more than a little confused, he stood up.

“That pathetic, fat little man…” he muttered to himself. “Does he really think this will change anything now?”

A glance around revealed a battle-scarred chamber of a style he was unfamiliar with…and only one visible exit. He was not fool enough think that they would be unlocked, leaving him with no real clue about how to escape. Mitsunari gritted his teeth and bowed his head.

If he truly was in the grasp of the Tokugawa, no fate but death awaited. The Toyotomi would survive without him, now, but he did not want die. He couldn’t. He wouldn’t.

“I… I will not…”

The noise that interrupted his words and thoughts, and what followed from it, quickly proved that what he believed had happened was not correct. He had been stolen away, yes, but not by Ieyasu… and while death remained possible, it was no longer a certainty.

[ NOTES ]
Nothing else to add.
