What the hell ...
... am I doing up at 8 a.m.? I mean, what's the point?
Back in Montreal now after our slightly extended stay in Fredericton. Julia is doing really well, so I can put her back to work any day now (cracks cat o' nine tails). Fortunately, I was able to get quite a bit of work done while we were away, so I now have another 20 pages or so to add to my count. Yeah, that's right, Peter, I have a count too, and it's ... 517, I think. And I've confirmed my hypothesis too. You my biatch, baby!
Seriously, all is well in the apartment, and Peter passed the requisite housekeeper tests in our absence. Now if I could just get over how much I hate the noise of this place, everything would be great.
While I'm not big on shopping, I do have a weakness for bookstores. It's sad, but while Montreal has lots of good used bookstores, most of them within a short walk of my apartment, I haven't found any place that has a good selection of sf and fantasy, unless you count Astro, which I don't, because it sucks. So, whenever we go down to Fredericton, I make a visit to Owl's Nest, the absolutely enormous used bookstore there. Plus, when we went to Halifax to see
longpig's excellent show, I just happened to stop by my favourite Halifax used bookstore, Kaya, and made some more purchases. Then, because it was our anniversary on Monday, we decided to buy each other books and so we made a second trip to Owl's Nest. Oh, also, I got one book from amazon.com in the mail and three more books as a present from my mother-in-law. So, here's the list of Books I Now Have That I Didn't Have Before:
Valis, Philip K. Dick
The Einstein Intersection, Samuel Delany
Norstrilia, Cordwainer Smith
Strangeness, Thomas Disch and Charles Naylor, eds.
World's Best Science Fiction 1967
Cosmicosmics, Italo Calvino
City of Illusions, Ursula K. LeGuin
A Time of Changes, Robert Silverberg
Rite of Passage, Alexei Panshin
Etidorpha, John Uri Lloyd
The Jewels of Aptor, Samuel Delany
The Face of the Waters, Robert Silverberg
Gulliver's Travels, Jonathan Swift
The Chalk Giants, Keith Roberts
Use of Weapons, Iain M. Banks
Samuel Johnson (biography), W. Jackson Bate
Fool's Errand, Robin Hobb
Vitals, Greg Bear
The Year's Best Science Fiction 5, Gardner Dozois, ed.
The Futurological Congress, Stanislaw Lem
Kiln People, David Brin
Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials, W.D. Barlowe
Whew! Combined with Julia's haul, we definitely need that new bookcase!
