One down, one to go
Finally broke down and called a tech guy to come in and look at the computer today. I hate paying for things that I think I can fix myself, but with computers ... well, sometimes it helps to have a guy who has some real edu-ma-cation. The good news is that the CD writer is up and running, and that I actually understand what went wrong with it. The bad news is that the guy had no idea what was wrong with the video/sound conflict. His best suggestion was to reinstall Win98 (or upgrade to WinXP, which might also be a thought, if I weren't worried about it being too much for this little baby to handle). But this leads to another problem. I have 2 copies of the Win98 installation software. One of them was kindly installed on the small part of the partitioned HD of the computer by the people who sold us the computer, except that they ungraciously forgot to include the @#$%!@ installation key, so I can't install it. The other copy is on CD and has a key, but is too old, so that it automatically disables the setup functions. Arrgh! But at least I have the burner, now.
