Freedom! Terrible, terrible freedom!
Yesterday morning, Witch Hazel showed up, as expected, for her visit with us. While this has a number of plusses, including that we get to do cool things that we wouldn't otherwise do, and ignore our work, it has one significant downside, which is that I am unable to wander around the apartment in the state of dishabille to which I am so accustomed in the summer. I was told I could ask, but apparently I have to wear clothes for the remainder of this week. Blast and double blast! Fortunately, Curtana and Witch Hazel are out girly shopping at second-hand stores this afternoon, so these new rules do not apply ...
Well, anyway, yesterday afternoon, we went to the art gallery, which isn't something I usually enjoy but which is a nice excursion every year or two. I mean, culture whatever, but I can't tell one Italian Old Master from the next, so they always blend into one another. I like the archy parts of the permanent collection better, but we never got to that stuff. In the evening, we went to see Lord of the Rings (again), but it was cheap and I hadn't seen the TT trailer yet, so that was all good. While there, we ran into Louis and Marie-Pascale (one of the two girls he isn't dating). God, I hope he reads this. We went out for coffee after the movie, and then left them to go home and watch Operation Double 007 (an MST3K starring Sean Connery's younger brother Neil).
I just finished printing out another finished chapter of my thesis. It's now up to 469 pages and about 140,000 words, which leads me to wonder how much longer it can go on (as long as it takes, I guess). While it may eventually end up being about 650 pages (including all tables, bibliography, etc.), this is nothing compared to one McGill Ph.D. from about twenty years ago whose dissertation was 1800 pages long! Small consolation, I guess, but at least for me, the end is in sight. Well, now I'd better put some clothes on so I can go hand the chapter in for revisions.
