There’s a fight over who gets the radiated store-it-forever waste between SC and Nevada.
Federal appeals court dismisses Nevada’s SRS plutonium arguments
By way of Beyond Nuclear –
Federal court rules DOE can “screw Nevada” with secret weapons-grade plutonium shipments and storage. Resistance needed!A three judge panel at the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco has ruled that the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) secret shipment and storage of large amounts of ultra hazardous, weapons-grade plutonium, can stand, despite the targeted state’s strenuous objections. DOE had actually perpetrated a fraud upon the court, pretending throughout the legal proceeding, for many months on end, that it had not yet shipped the plutonium to the Nevada National Security Site (formerly the Nevada Test Site, proving grounds for nuclear weapons test detonations, located on Western Shoshone Indian Nation land against their will, and in violation of treaty rights). However, Nevada’s Attorney General has made clear, there is plenty of fight left in him, to protect Nevadans’ health, safety, and environment. This horrible ruling comes amidst concerted efforts to revive the Yucca Mountain dump scheme in Nevada, targeting Nevada with 70,000 metric tons (or much more) of high-level radioactive waste and irradiated nuclear fuel from both DOE and the commercial atomic reactors. In this sense, this court ruling is an echo of the 1987 “Screw Nevada bill,” singling out a scientifically unsuitable, non-consent based site for highly radioactive waste permanent geologic disposal. However, united bipartisan Nevada elected officials (governors, attorneys general, state legislators, the U.S. congressional delegation), Western Shoshone, and more than a thousand environmental and environmental justice groups across the country, have held off the Yucca dump for 32 years, and counting. Please join the resistance. Contact your U.S. Representative, and both your U.S. Senators. Urge them to vote against any authorization or appropriations (funding) bills that would advance the Yucca dump. You can be patched through to your U.S. Congress Members’ D.C. offices via the U.S. Capitol Switchboard, at (202) 224-3121. And since it’s still August recess, you can get together with friends, family, colleagues, etc., to request a face to face meeting with one or more of your Members of Congress, on this issue, while they are back home. Learn more about this story at this link. Keep updated about the Yucca Mountain issue by visiting our website section devoted to it. (Right at press time, we have learned from Karen Hadden at SEED Coalition in Texas, that the second weapons-grade plutonium shipment from South Carolina may well have gone to Texas, and is now in storage at the Pantex nuclear weapons assembly/disassembly facility.

Many people are planning to storm Area 51 in September, possibly to discover proof of alien spacecraft or other objects from “outer space”, but what they may end up with is alien radiated cells from contact with the radiated soil from the detonated nuclear bombs during the Cold War. If these shipments of nuclear waste to Nevada were able to be made secretly, are other shipments to other areas also happening in secret?

Has been done in the past at 50 sites and was outed ca 1993 with hearings.

It discusses it a bit in this article. A Baton Rouge LA reporter outed them in 1991: https://archive.li/BNEXK

SRS doesn’t want it either and is unfit, as it is hot and wet. SRS waste was being sent to WIPP. There were indigenous people all over the United States. There are around 1200 Western Shoshone. Their land is all of Nevada and some neighboring states. INL is the best place to watch the waste for perpetuity but also western Shosone land and they don’t want it. Are the screw Nevada casino folk going to return or petition to return where they came from? There is waste-operating reactors at one reservation and at least two sacred sites on the Misissippi that no one talks about. Why doesn’t anyone speak for them?

Hugh Gusterson is the last researcher to have written a book about SDI, star wars, ray guns and we can forget about it now.
One would have expected a graduate student in anthropology to have written his dissertation about how the citizens in California and Nevada. especially the ShoShone Indians, were upset about what was happening at the Nevada Test Site. Instead he wrote one about how the warmongers pulled the wool over our eyes.
Like Jeff Hecht’s book Beams; the race to make the laser, it made out all the commotion about its invention was a tempest in a teapot, as lasers could not do all that was attributed to them. Hardly surprising that the paperback edition was reissued about a half century after is was originally published to reassure the public.
Gusterson’s book accomplished the same result by playing down the making of the X-Ray lasers which solved the limitations of the laser by causing an atomic explosion in space which beamed back rays many times stronger than the sun’s light.
The X-Ray laser was being used by GHW Bush, Clinton, GW Bush, and Obama to make quakes and other disasters.
With the end of the Cold War, according to him, everything was closed down, like the Nevada Test Site, and the protests, in which the Shoshone were never mention, paled those concerned about abortion. Bought the expensive book while I was nosing around Napa, doing my own research about these results.
Little wonder that Gusterson is now a distinguished professor of international relations at George Washington University.

oh – speaking of lasers … probably my DARPA/ARPA ed up hometown (University of Illinois) had a big hand in those evil lasers.

Nick Holonyak ‘sp? came along after Hecht had written Beans, and Gusterson didn’t mention him, but he adhered to secrecy in a way which defied all anthropological research, giving sources false names and sexes while following the rules to a tee.
