FAB: Reel Connections<\/strong> is a Broward County Film Society program that invites the community to experience film through the perspectives of South Florida\u2019s diverse cultural and community organizations. Throughout 2026, the Film Society partners with local groups to present films reflecting each organization\u2019s mission, heritage, or creative focus. Each event begins with a free screening at Savor Cinema or other community venues with light refreshments. Following the film, the partner organization adds a discussion, presentation, or performance to deepen the experience. Details\u00a0<\/strong>FLIFF and Gold Coast Jazz celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month with a screening of the monumental documentary\u00a0“A Great Day in Harlem”.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>

A Great Day in Harlem<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is an hour-long documentary film that brings to life a remarkable moment in the history of jazz as on a hot summer day in New York City, 1958, in which dozens of America’s jazz legends unexpectedly gathered together for a photograph, created by Art Kane, that would become emblematic of the golden age of jazz. By illuminating this single, historic event, A GREAT DAY IN HARLEM is a window to an unprecedented era in music history which addresses broader issues of creativity and community in our own time.<\/p>

Special Guest:<\/strong> Nicole Yarling
Nicole Yarling, Jazz Vocalist.\u00a0 Since the 1980\u2019s, Nicole has been a part of South Florida’s musical scene. Her extensive education ranges from a BA in Music from Baruch College, to a Masters in Music Education from Columbia University, as well as private training in composition, arranging, voice and violin. A professional performer, arranger and composer, Nicole is a music educator and is on the faculty of the University of Miami\u2019s Frost School of Music. She also uses her various musical skills to conduct Master Classes, vocal lessons, is the leader of the Gold Coast Jazz Society\u2019s \u201cFirst Friday Jazz Jams.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 She is also the creator of the Jazz Education Community Coalition (JECC) which furthers the education of young jazz musicians.<\/p>

Details: <\/b>The Broward County Film Society is\u00a0 collaborating with the Stonewall Library & Archives for this edition of FAB: REEL CONNECTIONS on the 1972 musical “CABARET” <\/b><\/p>

<\/b>Robert Kesten, Stonewall’s President & CEO chose “Cabaret”, which presents a look at Berlin and Germany as World War Two and the Nazis came into focus for the world. The fluidity of sexual orientation and activity, the unfiltered prejudices, the racism and antisemitism are so very close to today that sharing this film now is a reminder of what we are fighting for and the liberty we hope for.<\/p>

The film will be introduced by Robert Kesten.\u00a0<\/p>

Community Recognition:<\/strong> Haitian Heritage Month<\/p>

The Broward County Film Society\u00a0<\/b>and LBV Films presents the locally produced documentary “Dual Citizen”. The film is a <\/i>personal voyage of filmmaker Rachelle Salnave and her father’s quest for for their Haitian citizenship<\/em>. The film won the Louies Award,\u00a0 an initiative of the Miami Film Festival.<\/p>

Prior to the film at 6pm –<\/strong> Music and samplings of Haitian cuisine.\u00a0<\/p>

About the film\u00a0 (7pm) – <\/strong>DUAL CITIZEN is a humorous and heartfelt documentary about one father\u2019s reluctant effort to help his daughter reclaim her Haitian citizenship \u2014 even if it means confronting a past he thought he left behind.<\/p>

After the film: <\/strong>\u00a0Filmmaker Rachelle Salnave will discuss the making of the film.\u00a0<\/p>

After a black slave from the Carolinas escapes to Spanish Florida, he becomes the leader of the first sanctioned free black settlement in North America and ultimately a hero in the fight against the British. A Book of Freedom: The Confessions of Francisco Men\u00e9ndez is a docudrama that incorporates documentary evidence and historical fiction to tell the true story of one of the most remarkable people in Florida history.<\/p>

Immutable is a feature documentary that follows a group of students from the Washington Urban Debate League as they fight to find their voices in a world that too often tries to silence them. 94-year-old Glenn Hall, nicknamed ‘Mr. Goalie’, was born in 1931 and was a Hall of Fame goalkeeper in the NHL from 1955-1971.
