Its been a long time! A bunch has happened!
I’m a linux user now! Thats not the only reason but its certainly part of the reason I haven’t posted in so long, and between migrating systems and just forgetting how to upload content it just took a long time for me to remember how to even use this site in the first place…
For the last few months I picked up Obsidian again and resumed my diary keeping, something I found really useful back in 2023 and then stopped because adhd makes maintaining any sort of habit a nightmare :)
I find diarying helps scratch the same itch that posting does, a lot of stuff that I’d have previously posted online now goes in there and then I feel content with having written it down for the record. In fact I discovered I liked keeping notes of what I’d done or was thinking on any given day that I actually started keeping a second diary in parallel for work I’d done on any of my project, timestamped with how long I’d spent.
This was great! Until I realised Obsidian Sync will just dump every single attachment in the vault into my phone’s camera roll whether I wanted it to or not. It turns out as much as keeping a devlog feels like posting, Obsidian isn’t a good solution for actual posting. If I actually wanted to keep a devlog (anyone remember tigsource?) I needed somewhere better for it. And then I remembered… I have a website! I can just dump my work log into there, files don’t end up on my device and as a bonus its actual posting!
So, after burning most of my day on it, I can now point to the fact that flatgub.dev now has /devlogs/! There’s not much in there yet, but I have a whole setup now where i can put a list of changes and reference some files in a markdown file and it’ll build and publish an update to the devlog section of the site for me! I do have future plans for setting up auto-posting to bsky if a devlog has a video attachment, but not for now.
I do also have at least one actual blog post I wanna write, but for now at least this should shake some of the dust off this website and spare my obsidian vault from filling up with a bajillion attachments.
