Tech Help?
For some time I've been working on a web-based memorial for my sister, Jolie, her husband and 10 year old daughter, who were all killed in a traffic accident a couple years ago. I want to include a guest book and that means some server-side scripting. I started out working in Flash, and my original plan was to send the info from the guest book to be written to a text document, from which it could be read into another dynamic text box displaying all the entries. I paid a friend, Tom, to do a perl script for me, only to realize that the host server for my site doesn't support perl, but does support Front Page extensions. The Perl script was supposed to take the variables sent from the guest book and write them to the text document. That's when I learned that my server doesn't support Perl. I'm not sure of the capabilities of Front Page Server extensions. I got a copy of Front Page 2000 installed on my home-office computer; (this is not the computer connected by modem to the internet). Do you know if they can be made to do something similar to what the Perl script was supposed to do? How well do the extensions work with Flash?
(I'm now broke and working a temp clerical job until I can find something in my field, so I can't afford any more hired help).
I tested the Front Page extensions by setting up a form page for another site I'm working on, (the KEEY site; for a non-profit org), using Front Page, on the office computer. I uploaded that sole page to the KEEY site, which I enabled for the server extensions. The form is supposedly very simple: it's supposed to forward the form results to an email address. It doesn't. It didn't work with the simple HTML for sending form results to an email address. It doesn't work with the Front Page Server extensions. It didn't work when I followed the tech advice on that server's help page, disabled the extensions, re-enabled the extensions and reloaded the relevant page. I'm having so much trouble with this supposedly simple form that I haven't ventured to try the more complicated handling I want for the guest books. The host for the KEEY site is Qwest.net, for my memorial project the host is Softcomca.com. I've had a terrible time trying to get any tech help from Qwest.net, and can't find any server info listed, although they do claim to support FrontPage 2000 and earlier
Can anybody help?
