On Seeing a Spray of White Lilac
Oughten it be noble?
Oughten it be royal?
Oughten it be golden
With phoenician purple?
No, no, ‘tis virginal,
Gilded, gelded foam-white.
What a gorgeous lilac
God gave gracing Spring’s light!
Oughten it be noble?
Oughten it be royal?
Oughten it be golden
With phoenician purple?
No, no, ‘tis virginal,
Gilded, gelded foam-white.
What a gorgeous lilac
God gave gracing Spring’s light!
A lovely poem. But did you really mean "gelded' ?
And if you did, would you please explain (for me) the puzzling choice of word ?
Thanks.
