Thanks: huge thanks to ampokris for creating some effing amazing art for this, and for giving me great feedback. Also, thanks to my mum for betaing this for me. We have wildly different views about Oxford commas but she still did a sterling job on it.

Notes: The world I've written here borrows heavily from the Rivers of London series of books (stop reading this and go and read them now, they are way better than anything I have or will ever write) but isn't a crossover as I've only picked and chosen certain ideas from the world of those books.

Also, apologies for lack of Chin and Kono. I just couldn't make it work to have them going with Danny and Steve, and all the action happens around them

Rating: NC-17 (there's explicit slash sex, quite a bit of violence, and a particularly creepy/icky scene under water)
Warnings: There's major character death, but it's not permanent. There's OC death that *is* permanent. There is lots of violence, and drugged loss of volition, although none of the sex is non-con.
Summary:This is an H50/Highlander crossover. For Highlander newbies,check out this Crack Van Highlander overview: http://crack-van.livejournal.com/4697.html . Most of the story will be focused on H50, but several Highlander characters make an appearance, and there's also a few cameo scenes from a third fandom! Highlander means that there will be historical flashbacks--so opportunities to depict people in historical garb, if that's your thing. It also means *swords,* so if you ever wanted to have Five-0 characters swinging a sword, now's your chance. Pele, the Hawaiian volcano goddess, is actually a living person in this fic, so feel free to get out copious amounts of volcano imagery, too. There are also several scenes on (and one *in*) the ocean, so water imagery is also welcomed. Come to think of it, there's some scenes in the air, too. So I've got all the elements: fire, earth, water, and air!

2013 Five0bang Artist/Mixer Sign-up and Promotion

We are late with this, but I hope that won't make much of a difference and that artists/mixers and authors will still have plenty of time to work together.

First things first. We started out with 7 participants and for unforeseen circumstances, 2 have had to drop out, so that leaves 5 participants. That's okay. I hope to read their fics at some time and that for the next round, they'll be able to participate.

Second thing. Promoting the community to get artists/mixers. You can use the banners found here or here or create your own.

Third thing. Sign ups. This is for artists, mixers, and those who wish to provide some other kind of fanwork to accompany a fic.

Fourth thing. Actual claiming of fics will happen at a later date. I would say around 18 July. The reason it's so late is to make sure there are at least 5 people signed up to provide some kind of art to accompany the fic.

First, let me start by apologizing for the previous check in disappearing like it did. LJ was on the fritz and ate many entries all over the place. I messaged them about the missing entry and got a generic reply, so I'm not holding my breath for the entry to be restored. The weird thing is, I have the link and can somewhat access it, but I can only see the comments that were left. The poll and other text in the entry is gone. Very weird.

Author Sign Ups 2013

We're open to any and all fictional pairings here, and pretty much any idea sounds like a good one to us. These are the basic guidelines that you'll have to follow while writing, but pretty much anything else is a go:

-40,000 words is the minimum length for each story. There is no upper limit. Stories can be written with a partner or by a group; the minimum word count is still 40,000 words, no matter how many people are involved.

-Stories must have at least one beta reader. We recommend you have two for a story this length, but we're only requiring one. If you don't have a beta reader, check out the beta post and see if anyone there fits your needs.

-This challenge is for new stories. If your story has appeared online in its entirety, it's not eligible for five0bang. If you want to complete something you've already started, that's fine, but at least 30,000 words of it must be new material.

-Sequels are great! If you write a sequel to something you've written in the past, include a link to the original story in your author's notes, so people can read from the beginning if they haven't already.

-If you need some inspiration, check out the prompt post. Take the prompts as literally or as figuratively as you want - use part of one, use three or four, use half of one and half of another. It's entirely up to you.

-In order for your story to qualify for this challenge, you cannot post it anywhere online until the due date. On that day, you can post it wherever you'd like - Livejournal, Dreamwidth, AO3, your personal website, or anywhere else - and link to it here. Just don't put it up before the reveal. (Posting details will be given closer to that time.)

-Rough drafts are due on 28 October. A rough draft is a document with a beginning, middle, and end that is at least 80% complete. It does not have to be beta read at this point. Completed stories are due on 28 November, and posting will being on 1 December.

Welcome to the prompt post for the 2013 five0bang!

Basically, this is a post to generate ideas. You don't have to be a writer/artist/mixer/beta/participant in any other way if you don't want to - this is your chance to share ideas that you think might make a good 40k story. If you have an idea like that, share it here!

Authors are free to use whatever ideas from here that they want, in any way that they want, so if you have an idea for a story that you'd only like to see written in a specific way, don't post it here. Authors can choose to use part of a prompt or mix pieces of several prompts or come up with their own story entirely.This is just a place for ideas for people who are interested in participating but aren't sure what to write.

One idea per comment, please! It's easier to keep track of things that way :) Also, I hope this goes without saying, but just so it's out there: no bashing of anyone's prompts, pairings, ideas, etc. We're open to pretty much everything here - and if you're not sure about your idea, feel free to use our page a mod post to ask us about it.
