Evil???

To start, I don’t not like the term evil as it is judgmental and does not allow for the understanding of the all the factors involved in an action. It also detracts from the personal responsible we have for all of our actions. However, I have used the term in the following thoughts so that they may be more easily understood by others. I use evil with the following definition: ‘Evil is a word to describe something that in isn’t current state appears to be lacking in good’.

The state of evil is only validly perceived in the results of actions. When these results are detrimental or harmful to others, the action can be deemed to be lacking in good. However, remember that this is only the case for the victim in the action. The actor most likely took some benefit from the action and probably would not come to the same conclusion

Actions that affect only us and freely consenting parties are not evil and can never be evil. These actions may include things that are damaging. However, the very fact that they do not affect others un-willing the only vantage point from which the results can be judged is that of the actor in question. And we do not naturally judge ourselves to be evil.

Evil cannot be incurred by beings or object without self determination. While we may perceive dangers in this world as ‘evil’ this is only from within our vantage point. As an example, the serpent’s bite can be deadly; As such, it is capable of performing an action that is detrimental to others. However, it is not a weapon used of free will but rather a tool for survival and therefore intrinsically incapable of being evil.

We as human have free choice and as such are able to choose to perform actions whose results are detrimental to others. With this comes the responsibility that allows us to be judged for these actions.

Finally, evil is not and independent entity or force. Owing to this fact, evil is unable to be a cause of anything, and has not properties of its own. Remember always that like good, soft, or cold, evil is a qualification applied from the perspective on the beholder.

This was suppose to be a real entry. It was suppose to talk about my fears, and the future. It was suppose to talk about lost love. It was suppose to be open and honest. Message From Gen in Cuba

The school has managed to put aside a few computers for us that we are allowed to use for sending emails. Unfortunately the connection is quite slow and the access is controlled. we can't get access to hotmail, yahoo and probably gmail. Basically anything that is american. cuba is not permitted to access the submarine cable that north america uses for internet so they get internet through satellite via Canada. I suppose this is one of those reasons for why they love us so much.

I guess the most important thing is that I am well. I have not been sick and everything has gone well so far.

the girls that i spend most of my time with have been great. they are adventurous and a bit of a party group - completely contrary to the type of people with which i traditionally associate. everyday has been planned for us, but in our free time we have taken trips into the tourist district to have a drink and to see the sites. one afternoon we went to the coast and another we went to the beach. we have also been participating in several conferences and cultural exchanges. yesterday we received a presentation about education in cuba and the new projects/experiments that they are working on at this institution. today we had a conference with the fifth year students to discuss canadian culture. we had a cultural night in which the cuban students sang, read poetry, and danced with us. i am really enjoying myself. of course there is a lot that i am seeing that is hard to swallow. there is of course poverty, which has been hard to take in but in true north american style, you become immune to it after a while. the people her are wonderful. they give when they have nothing. they have a sense of community, unity and solidarity that is unique. speaking of which, i went to their may 1st celebration. they celebrate and remember their revolution on this day. fidel came and spoke to the people for a couple hours. it was exciting to be at the square with all those cubans listening to their commander and chief.

the teaching is going alright for the most part. the students are awesome. i'm still nervous about getting up in front of the students though. i teach two more lessons next week and then i'm done. we come back friday around 12;40 or 1;40. unfortunately that might be completely off. we arrived at verona around 12;30, after a 12 hour travel day when we first arrived. oh! thank god for all those camping trips and living in residence. i shared a room with 6 other girls at first with one bathroom that has only cold water. there is no toilet paper and sometimes there is no water. we eat almost the same thing every day but i have yet to become really dehydrated. i haven't been drinking a lot of water but the heat hasn't been bothering me. it is like toronto during the summer. thankfully the nights are cooler and we have air conditioning now.

i have so much more to say, especially from a political science perspective but i think i'll have to leave it for when i get home next Friday. I´m trying to keep a journal but it has not been successful.

A drunk man who smelled like beer sat down on a subway seat next to a

minutes the man turned to the priest and asked, "Say, Father, what
causes arthritis?"

Many of you know I am a afraid of growing up. Well I have been thinking .... getting older can have it's advantages too. In fact I think we are at a great age. Within 0-3(those of us who took their time) years most of us will be done school and enjoying a new life. Sure we will have jobs but we will also have money. Sure people are getting married/having kids but those bring there own joys. Lots of changes yes.... but really what is change if not a chance for a new adventure.

We were always told that we were the future .... so I guess it is ok if we stop procrastinating and start getting to it.

Saturday I went to Dennis and Erin's where I had an amazing dinner. I have decide I will elslave Erin and make her cook for me but I don't think she knows yet.
