11/11
I have seen only... one post on my flist about this. I don't count myself to be that patriotic, but this is really bugging me for some reason. Is this a Canadian thing only? Anyway.
I know it's not 11:11 AM anymore (obviously), but for the sake of remembering on Remembrance Day:
I know it's not 11:11 AM anymore (obviously), but for the sake of remembering on Remembrance Day:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
On the 11th month of the 11th day at the 11th hour,
soldiers threw down their weapons,
signalling the end of World War I.
Lest we forget.
