Aniimo General Information
Aniimo aims to be another player in the creature-catching genre, stepping away from the classical turn-based combat that for so long characterized the genre, and instead embracing a more real-time action combat, along with a modern open-world traversal experience and cooperative multiplayer.
The Creatures
Similar to other games in the genre, Aniimo's creatures are also called Aniimo. There is a vast amount of Aniimos, and from what's been shown of them, they seem to be responsive to the world around them.
- Aniimo appear dynamically based on environment and conditions
- Most Aniimo can evolve
- Each Aniimo has unique abilities, elemental affinities, behaviors, and combat roles
- Aniimo possess personality traits and rare stat rolls, encouraging long-term collection and optimization
Twining
The defining mechanic of Aniimo is Twining.
Twining allows players to:
- Merge with an Aniimo they have collected
- Temporarily become that Aniimo
- Gain its abilities, movement options, and combat style
- Experience the world from a new perspective
Twining is used for Combat, Environmental puzzles, and Traversal and exploration challenges
Progression strengthens the bond between player and Aniimo, unlocking more powerful and versatile uses over time.
Setting, World, and Exploration
Aniimo will have an open world to be explored. As is expected in this monster-gathering genre, the creatures you have at your disposal help you not only in battle but also in traversing the world. Depending on the creatures at their disposal, players will have the following movement options when exploring:
- glide
- dive
- climb
- burrow
- sprint
As for the world, Aniimowill feature a number of interesting landmarks for players to use the movement abilities listed above in order to reach and/or explore them. Among the confirmed world features in the game, there are the following:
- Forests
- Oceans
- Volcanic regions
- Underground locations
- A sky-floating metropolis
And besides the interesting landmarks and involved mechanics built around exploring and enjoying this world, the game aims to have a dynamic world in the way the different creatures interact and react to different world states.
For instance, creature spawn rates could be affected by the time of day, environmental conditions, and weather. This extends to even having some aniimo only appear during specific weather phenomena.
Aniimo Combat Systems
Since Aniimo's gameplay implements the Twining mechanic, allowing the player to incarnate their creatures and use their abilities in this form to traverse the world and also to engage in combat, that means that combat has two distinct modes, where the player acts as the classical leader/trainer of the fighting creatures, and the second one where the player engages directly while using this Twine mode.
Command Mode
- Tactical, indirect control of Aniimo
- Focus on positioning, preparation, and elemental matchups
Twine mode
- Direct action combat while merged with an Aniimo
- Real-time combos, abilities, dodging, and movement
In any case, elemental strenghts and weaknesses play an important role in combat. Understanding how aniimos interact and behave during different situations and facing different elements and dangers is critical for success. As players get more used to the games' controls, using either form of combat and even switching when appropriate should become more manageable.
