Not a progress report per se: I've been having sort of a writer burnout since the end tail of May. While I know what to do, the drive and motivation is just not there. I'm not even too keen on watching movies or series, despite them being good.
The good news is, I have new books (bought, borrowed, and legally free) to read.

The other account is for noting down writing accomplishments, and this one is for tracking my progress.

January begins with me developing outlines, rather sluggishly, and an attempt to start a horror novel. Then I re-acquired the rights to my debut novel, so I worked on editing it. Mostly it's correcting the word uses, shaving off parts that don't directly relate to the plot, and updating the technologies and cultural references. That book was written during the Gen 2 Kpop era, btw. After that, I restarted the fake dating novel, and that's what I'm working on right now.

Not that I'm not grateful that they were willing to pay up front but I was caught off guard. ^^

When I was being noisy about local K-pop fans' willingness to spend money on fanfic, the only way to shut me up would have been to bring up the doujinshi culture. Like I didn't see the parallel! Slow as usual.

On ship fic

Reading ship fic has taught me more about writing romance than reading origfic romance, because ship fic:

♥ Can be long, like a single title can be hundreds of thousands of words long = lots of space to explore the characters, their dynamics, the ups and downs in their relationship

♥ Has steamier sexy times; the emphasis on consent is sure nice

♥ Sometimes places the conflict that results in the temporary break like seven or five chapters away from the ending, or there's more than one such conflict = higher suspense while the characters have more time to heal and to consider the situation with cooler heads (more logical)

I'm the sort of writer who has to finish a story first before sharing it. That's not a method that really fits serialized fiction, which is what goes in both fanfic and origfic today. The Indonesian publishing industry has been hit hard by the pandemic, and online serialized fiction is how lots of Indonesian readers consume their fiction. I'll try to slowly adapt to that, writing a story chapter by chapter rather than finishing it first before posting.

What I remember of the NaNoWriMo 2009 project: a 50k-word wuxia story.

What I saw when I opened the file named nano2009: a 83k-word wuxia story.

Current assumption: I rewrote the original draft and threw away 33k words. But where is the 50k-word version? It's only been 11 years and I'm already forgetting all this, what on earth, self.

One-shot fanfic on AO3 can be so long. Like 44k words long. This has tangentially inspired me to try writing a series. Before that, must know how to post multichaptered fic? (Correct me if this is wrong assumption, I've only posted one-shots on AO3 so far and haven't tried posting multichapters)

Camp NaNoWriMo: Finished a super messy, plot hole-y first draft of a thriller novella. I like the premise but haven't really warmed up to the characters yet. Maybe I will during revisions.
The NaNo site seems to be having glitches since I've seen nothing (winner's badge, etc) on the winner page.

K-pop fanfic gives me life. *wipes at tears* It makes me read multichaptered fic, whereas I only used to read one-shots. Reader's growth, y'all.

Speaking of fanfic, my Saint Seiya fanfic is still getting kudos even now, I'm?? Where and how did people discover them?

I'm also seriously considering writing romance. Yes, I know. Wish me luck?

Hit the ground running!

Learning from past mistakes, I don't laze around on November 1. That "there's still plenty of time to write" mindset is poison, humph. Writing exercises before November were also useful to get me into the right mood.

Constant opportunities (that pay well) are crucial for freelance creative workers, and I hope they keep coming my way. Being a NaNo ML actually helps; people hear about me and know what I do.

People are still giving kudos to my fanfic at AO3. Maybe it's because StS (original anime and Lost Canvas) are available on Netflix - some of the viewers look up the fanworks.

Me in 2018: I want to write fanfic again, but what could the fandom be? I've written everything I had to say about Saint Seiya The Lost Canvas.

Me two days ago: Finished the first draft of a fanfic. Not mentioning the fandom and names because embarrassed ahahaha. I seriously missed writing in English. I should do it more.
Habits die hard, though. I set out to write everything and anything I wanted to, and my internal editor just tagged along, pointing out things I should correct. "Don't be lazy just because it's a personal project," it said, and sadly, I agreed.

Back in August, I thought the rest of the year would be for preparing the 2019 projects. Now here I am, doing new projects that are due this year. So the planning/preparing schedule has been moved to December, because NaNoWriMo.

I finished a first draft today! The epilogue was pretty tough to write, because I had to resolve all the plot threads. That's what an epilogue means to me.

Tentatively calling my Camp NaNoWriMo novel Endless Waltz. Not because the characters are mecha pilots, but because I described one of the romantic relationships as a slow waltz. Novel genre: thriller/YA, setting: the present day, the word that sparked the idea: murderabilia.

Speaking of mecha, I wish the main robot's name in Pacific Rim is changed to Pegasus Avenger ~~since they've already got a Phoenix and an Athena~~ to remove the slur.

The NaNo badge might be too large for your layout

For this year's NaNo, I wrote the story I've always wanted to see happen: all wuxia heroines all the time. No romance, just women traveling, socializing, and occasionally breaking heads. (Lots of heads) Various sorts of women go into the story: angry, sly and unscrupulous, mild-mannered, mischievous, aloof. It cleared my head and prepared me better to embark on the next writing journey.

I crossed the 50k mark on the 23rd. Last year I did so on the 20th, so this year it felt more relaxing and invigorating.
