Simple pleasures
My mam brought back from London last week a hempen backpack to replace the manbag I got in Oxfam a while ago. This backpack, aside from being made of hemp, has many advantages over the old one which together make me very very excited about it.
The bag is made by the company Sativa; this and another company, Braintree, do excellent, high-quality hempen and bamboo clothes and stuff. I recommend them, both for the quality of the clothing, the goodness to the world (I'm actually probably more sure than I'm warranted to be that these companies are ethical, but... yeah, I'll sort that out later. They give a good impression, and the benefits of hemp over cotton are uncontroversial, even if not as strong as I'm implying), for the pleasantness of being in their shop (in Camden Town, London), and for the fact that you'll be wearing hemp, which is like tea in its wonderfulness, and for vaguely similar reasons.
- It has two straps, so the weight is distributed over both shoulders, allowing me to more easily carry heavy loads.
- The side of the bag which touches my back has a padding which keeps it flat against my back.
- This padding, which is also on the straps, also makes wearing the bag a comfortable experience.
- It's made of hemp.
- It has numerous separated compartments, which I can utilise by putting different things in different compartments. For example, I can put my wallet in the small compartment at the front of the bag.
- It's made of hemp. Did I mention this already?
- The made-of-hemp-ness means it goes with all my other hempen clothes.
- Hemp is also really good for the world.
- It's really attractive in an underspoken way. Just an earthy green colour, with a small logo and metal buckles attached by leather whatsits.
- It looks really solidly built, and looks like it'll last a long time.
- It's made of hemp. I love hemp.
- The positioning of the bag keeps it out of the way of my stride.
- The positioning of the bag is very good for balance, which will be important when I get a bike later this week or next.
- It's made of this wonderful fabric for which I have a massive and inexplicable love: hemp.
