For the Irish (and anyone who doesn't mind coming to Ireland for a super-amazing concert)
I've mentioned this before, but now I'm giving it its own post. Because it's very important, and we want people to come.
The Diversus Guitar Ensemble is giving a four-date tour of east Ireland this March. It runs from the 12th to the 15th.
They are an ensemble of about 20 classical guitarists, and in this tour they are playing:
The Moat Theatre in Naas on the 12th (8pm);
The Droichead Arts Centre in Louth on the 13th (8.30pm);
The Courthouse Arts Theatre in Wicklow on the 14th (8pm); and,
Especially, the Unitarian Church in Dublin on the 15th (6pm).
They are playing a concert that is half baroque (Vivaldi, Scarabaldi), and half contemporary. But nice contemporary, not Stockhausen contemporary (or Glass contemporary).
The new pieces are one and all world premieres. The old pieces have been arranged specifically for the ensemble - indeed, specifically for the tour.
If you're interested so far, then I recommend going to their MySpace page, where you can listen to some recordings. In fact, I recommend doing this anyway. The recordings sound beautiful, and were recorded somewhere with incredible acoustics.
If you want to book tickets, talk to me. E-mail, comment, IM, even call me (but you have to ask for my number first, because I don't want to Friends-lock this entry).
And - well, I may as well say - I wrote one piece, arranged another, and I'm one of the guitarists. So, y'know.
Hope to see you there.
