Jazz: The best anything that anyone has ever anything'd.

Which we all know. Right? Check out some Louis Armstrong if you don't believe me.

But something peculiar. Thirty-seven hours ago, at ten to four in the morning, ten minutes from Obama's by-then-certain official victory, I would have treated the wondrousness of jazz as an isolated success in the midst of failures on America's part. Ditto for every other great things that America has done - its colleges, the best in the world; the myriad amazing artists and countless natural wonders and feats of engineering, invention and ingenuity to which it is the home and birthplace; so forth. They were all, to me, isolated incidents. I still found America extremely annoying. But then, ten minutes later, to my immense surprise, it all vanished. Now I see all of America's successes as resulting from what America is; and that these things make America what it is, to at least a large extent. And I've all but forgotten that creationists exist, and that 99% of them exist in America. Now it's that which seems an isolated failure in a country that is defined by its success.

None of this has anything to do with Obama. But I know it's because he's won, that I no longer dislike America. Go figure?
