i'm writing this piece... basically it starts in 13/8, and flows. flows damn well, and im really happy with it. just classical guitar for a while, then cello and doublebass come in doing pedal notes.... then i add a flute doing a melody over the top... that was impossible to do. the first riff flows by fluke; finding ANOTHER melody that flows in 13/8 is well nigh impossible... i tried anyway, with moderate success i think. then the melody sort of... finds itself after being slightly meandering... it sort of fits into a melody-shaped hole that was always there... then it sort of climaxes along with the addition of an oboe playing in unison (but i'm going to bring it down a 4th or a 3rd i think) and a viola doing pedal notes... very nice.

then it changes... another movement kind of... to 3/4, and modulates to e major (it's normally in Am) for a bit... flute and PANPIPES doing a melody over the top... and that's basically where i am. about 3 minutes so far. i'm hoping to use a full classical orchestra by the time i'm finished, make it soar, timpani and trumpets everything... it has loads of petential. i think i'm going to make a permanent modulation to e major next...

so so far i've got....
2 finished pieces (well, apart from fine-tuning) for rock band (electric guitar, bass, drums and 2 electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, drums)
1 finished piece for violin and cello
1 finished piece for 2 classical guitar and string quartet
umm... 1 unfinished piece (LONG way from being finished) for string quartet
1 unfinished piece for satb choir (well... at the moment it's a finished piece, albeit 10 seconds long, called ode to wisdom, in b major... slightly strange story...)
this piece for classical orchestra and classical guitar and panpipes, which is very unfinished...
what else? um... a few other things... well actually loads of other things... i've got a piece in f i'm writing for a romantic orchestra (100 instruments) and i've got like 12 bars written...

this summer is going to ROCK!!!! very busy very creative... deadly :) :)
