This is a great book about the lower east side of New York a hundred years ago. Any one interested in the history of the Jewish community in the United States of the first half of the20th century should read this book

I would recommend ALL for the Boss to anyone searching for inspiration or for a role model. MR Herman was both--and then some. Currently, I am reading the book for the fourth time and am still learning.

A Must Read for Everyone
Review byRiva Pomerantz
When does a book become a journey, a life-altering experience? When that book challenges the reader's beliefs and takes up the four corners of the reader's existence like a crumb-spotted tablecloth, airing it out for a good shaking. In a sense, All For the Boss is that book - an honest, down-to-earth glimpse of plain-vanilla greatness in a man with no airs who devoted his life to The Boss, His Creator.
I read All For the Boss as a child, and while it certainly made an impression on me, I was lost in the vast world of what seemed to me a harsh disciplinarian and a grueling way of life. Re-reading it as an adult afforded the ability to savor it, to sip it gently like a fine way, appreciating the nuances and undertones and especially the great product of the book's protagonist, Rabbi Yaakov Yosef Herman - his daughter Ruchama Shain, a beautiful, uplifting individual in her own right.
