being somewhat penned-in space-wise, here, it was a pleasant surprise to discover a jigsaw puzzle table in a local public library -

- recognisable by the fairly convincing clue of an only partly-started jigsaw laid out in front of my very eyes!

- yr hmbl srppnt. has since completed over half-a-dozen mostly 1,000-piece jigsaws -

- not including 2/1 - a fairly interesting "astrology wheel" one backed with a fiendish "stars of the night skies" double planisphere - two-sided puzzle i'd bought, but not had space to do in two years, which i donated to their collection, and then was rewarded by the librarian bringing it out [1] wearing "a certain smile" on his face. . .

- it's been a long time since this ppint. last had regular christmice/birthday puzzles to feed the habit.

[1] - as suitable punishment, perhaps?

a bathyphobic vampire would appear to have boarded
the 555 bus at booths, keswick at or around 13:30 this afternoon -
- a young and rather clumsy vampire,
judging by both the departure time of the bus
(which tends predominantly to cater to junior school girls and boys
headed homewards at that time of the day - if they survive),
and by the sheer widespread distribution of human circulatory fluid
upon the floor, furnishings and four formerly blue tables on the
upper deck of the bus by the time it reached lancaster this evening,
scheduled to become the 17:15 bound back up to kendal and then keswick...

no traces of blood were found upon the bottom deck, but lancaster
stagecoach staff were unable to source cleaning mop, bucket, water
and disinfectant in time to allow passengers onto the upper deck in
time for the 17:15 gmt scheduled departure time, despite the handily
nearby-located branches of lidl, b&m, argos/sainsbury's (etc.) supermarkets:

so the 17:15 555 bus departed with upper deck ''scene-of-the-crime''
taped-off from passenger access at the bottom of the bus staircase.

an ashen-faced mr. s. coach, nw, of lowther street, carlisle,
declined to confirm or deny details.

it definitely *isn't* spring, here, yet - but it can't be far off:

last week, there were barely two dozen lambs in the fields
north of tewitfield (carnfroth-ish), with their mums,
and none at all out in the fields along the a6
north from lancaster to kendal, nor along the way up to keswick;

- today, there were upwards of four dozen,
in just one field off the a6 south of milnthorpe -
- and though fairly large by local standards,
this wasn't aught to boast of as to its acreage -
- and similar orders of numbers in at least three other fields,
too far off, to count accurately -

- has everyone been promising their kids
cute, fluffy lambs for pets as we come out of covid-19 caution - ?

- or is everyone ordering fresh british lamb
with which to celebrate the coming eastertide - ?

(something of an experiment, just to see if there's anyone still out there...)

it's the wolf moon!

it's full moon, and the first of 2022 is quite striking:
if lucky, you'll see a double moonbow, with the colours of the rainbow encircling the moon's disc - twice!
(this depends upon there being lots of tiny ice crystals in the earth's atmosphere above you, when you're gazing up at it)

it's also obligatory that everyone goes out and

howls! at the moon!

younger friends - some of them - have a habit or superstition of saying ''rabbits!'' on the first day of every new month.

when and where did this originate?

- n.b. not, where do you assume or presume it did -
- when did you first do this, or see & hear it done, in real life,
- and do you know where and from whom you picked up the habit/superstition -
- and which of these is it, for you - if you do it - ?

the school playground tradition yr hmbl srppnt. knew - and experienced, sometimes painfully - was

''a pinch and a punch for the first of the month!''

- with the action appropriate to the word being demonstrated upon the hapless victim, sometimes viciously. . .

- as a result of which, the near-instant addition was frequently made:

- which, by tradition, absolutely forbade the same harsh treatment being inflicted upon the person who'd just meted it out, in reflex.

- this was in the school playground etc,
in the late fifties and through the sixties,

as the then-new russian owners of lj were obliged to obey the new russian law criminalising anything and everything the ex-kgb etc. president deemed promoted, encouraged or even investigated certain ''sexpol'' topics, ''farcebk'' has been officially required to do likewise - possibly, ''only'' ''in russia'' - but the internet doesn't see national boundaries very easily - so possibly, effectively, either in its world-wide coverage.

the alternative is apparently crippling fines. payable in a hard currency, such as merkin dollars, one suspects: or, just possibly, in gold - ?

with the lockdown and the continuing restrictions - which are still badly needed - it's been five months since i went anywhere purely to look at the plants - the wild flowers, and the trees growing in the lake district; that's just under half of the year 2020, most of the spring and all of the summer - almost all of growing, flowering, tree-blossoming here in the northern hemisphere gone for the year.

but, after a reminder of what's been going on all the same, despite our very real troubles, it's just coming into the season of fruiting shrubs and trees - it looks like it could be a good season coming for conkers, and it's already getting into brambles, and well into rosehips and wild briar hips - and soon, all those imported sycamore ''helicopters'', and is it plane trees' keys in bunches? - to keep an eye out for, before the toadstool season gets under way.

one of the two most beautiful - and variety-filled - seasons in the year to come, just starting.

and that one or other of the currently likely-looking vaccine candidates proves successful,

for not only does this particular pandemic provide warning that healthcare is a global concern;

it has, by its source, spread - and costs - reiterated that the health of the rich & megawealthy few
is truly dependant upon the health and living standards of the poorest and most crowded-together many.
