London Calling!
Okay, everyone....
I am scheduling classes for next autumn quarter, and I need to pick a language so I can get my language requirement fulfilled. But I have NO IDEA what to take. So I'm open to suggestions.
Here are the available courses:
Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese, Czech, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Modern Greek, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Sanskrit, Scandinavian, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Turkish, Yiddish, and Zulu. *sweatdrop*
I still love Japanese culture a LOT, obviously, so that one has a big pull. Almost all of them sound like fun, esp the two African languages (since I'm so interested in Vodou and its origins)..... but then.... all of them sound like fun. Shite.
The ones I'm really truely torn among are Japanese, Spanish, and French. To an extent, Latin is up there, too, but I know it's truely a BITCH to learn and is a dead language. But I think it would be cool to be able to speak it. French sounds fun, of course, because it's A) a beautiful language and B) because of its influence on Creole in the South. Not to mention all of our beloved undead who mysteriously all seem to come from France. But the only people who speak French are the French and the Canadians, neither of whom do much for me. Spanish would be by far the most useful language to speak in the US (since I don't plan on living in China anytime soon, so mandarin chinese isn't really an issue here). Also, my roommate next year, my best friend at OSU, and my dad all speak excellent spanish, so I would have excellent backup for it. And if I study the Mayans, Aztecs, or the Incans, it'll be in a country that speaks predominantly spanish. *hrrm's*
If I take an Asian language, it will be Japanese, because I LOVE THAT COUNTRY.... but I can't necessarily see myself doing anything there for an extended period of time... argh!!! DAMN YOU ALL!!! *flails madly* Too~~~ MANY ~~~~ CHOICES!!! MRAH!!
Anyway, please give me some EENPUT!!
