The two women try to get into the room. A guy inside says, "Mind your own business; she wants to be in here" and slams the door.
The two women can see a girl lying on a mattress with a bunch of guys around her, and one on top of her with his pants down.
The two women and a friend force the door open. They can see the girl, not moving, vomit all over her face and her pants off.
Someone lifts the girl's head up. She opens her eyes and says, "I'm sorry."
One of the guys in the room responds, "This is her fault. She got drunk and did this to herself."
The three amazing young women take the 17-year-old girl to the hospital.
Citing the fact that the girl doesn't remember everything that happened and that the three eyewitnesses "only saw the last 30 to 60 seconds of a two-hour party",the Santa Clara DA decides that there is insufficient evidence to prosecute the case.
She said "I'm sorry." SHE. SAID. "I'M SORRY." DO YOU KNOW WHY SHE SAID I'M SORRY?
Because as a gender, women are trained, from day one, that it is all our fault. It is ingrained in us that no matter how violated we are, no matter how much shit is thrown at us, no matter how OUT of our FUCKING HANDS it may be, it is still our fault. In fact! NOT ONLY IS IT OUR FAULT, but we asked for it and when we can't handle it, that makes us horrible people. No matter how hard we fight it, or how we try to re-wire our brains, it's still there, trained into us by a culture that blames the victim for the crime and lets the perpetrators off guilt-free.
I am so fucking angry at this moment I am in tears. I can't even. What the fuck? The decision to not prosecute is the best part.
