Too-ra-loo-ra-laddie
This post is little more than an excuse for me to pimp some of my favorite lesser-known bands. Most of you have heard (or rather read, I suppose) me blathering on about all the great, well-known bands that I adore: Rufus Wainwright, Coldplay, the Foo Fighters, and (duh) Green Day being among them. But I have a lot of bands that most people go "bzuh?" when I mention, and that's a shame, because they're really awesome.
All you RL people who have most of this (or hell, gave it to me) can probably safely mostly ignore this post. Since, um, duh. *giggles*
Gaelic Storm. Probably my very favorite little-known band. They're Celtic, they're great music, a great live show, and wonderful people (having seen them live about 7 times and spoken with every member of the band, I can say that - heh). If you ever get a chance to see them, you should totally do it - their shows are cheap and very entertaining. Especially if you can see them in a bar or tavern, then they tend to do the funnier, more risque stuff. Get Special Reserve first off, or Tree, if you're in a CD-buying mood.
Courtin' in the Kitchen
Nancy Whiskey
Swimmin' in the Sea
Go Home, Girl
Erasure. Introduced to me by the lovely and incomparable
jou, Erasure is one of those bands that either you're quite familiar with and fond of, or you sort of blink and go, "who?" It's tempting to write them off as just another synth-pop 80's band, but the combination of Vince's songwriting and Andy's incredibly talented voice, not to mention really awesome lyrics - these guys are great. (AND they're still making music.) No wonder
jou has so damn many of their CD's. I highly recommend I Say, I Say, I Say or Cowboy to start off with in terms of CD's.
Chorus (one of about ten hojillion remixes)
Don't Say Your Love is Killing Me
Fingers and Thumbs
Always (This is the song you might actually know - it's the first one I knew by them anyway. This is the Microbots Inside Your Head version.)
Prozzak. Introduced to me by the one and only
solmaru, this is another band you might be tempted to write off as crappy Europop or synthpop or whatever. But I still loved the hell out of their CD Hot Show and I bought it, oh, five or six years ago. Very fun.
Sucks to Be You
Omobolasire
Pretty Girls
Hot Show
Johnny Clegg. Introduced to me by
ailei and then embraced whole-heartedly by
jou, this man is... well... he kind of defies definition, really. Though his awesome bad 80's jam pants are ten kinds of cool. He, uh, sings in Zulu alot? I have his Anthology CD and it's teh good. ♥
Dela (I Think I Know Why the Dog Howls At the Moon - the quintessential Clegg. Sogood.
Rolling Ocean
Laduma (South African Rugby Anthem)
Asimbonanga (Mandela)
Deep Forest. Omfg, these guys are so friggin' cool. New-age techno? Does a very poor job of conveying how much fun they are. I listen to these guys a lot when I'm studying, because they're sort of...mellow is a poor word, but they're easy to listen to and they just put me in a really good mood. Comparsa is probably my favorite album of theirs, though I have it on good authority that their debut(?) album Deep Forest is also great.
Madazulu
Deep Blue Sea
While the Earth Sleeps (featuring Peter Gabriel)
Noonday Sun
And I was gonna post more, but MREH, this post is LONG ENOUGH AS IS. *staggers off*
