Natalie MacMaster concert
Here's the lowdown on the concert I went to tonight *is still giddy from how much FUN it was* I'm not going to give every little detail, because some things just have to be experienced, but I thought I would give y'all the highlights of the evening..... not that the whole damn performance wasn't amazing... ^-^
First of all, she is just about the cutest damn lady in the whole world. For all of you who don't know, Natalie MacMaster is a fiddle player from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. She plays mostly Celtic (typically Scottish) fiddle tunes, but she plays shiteloads of other stuff, too: for example, tonight she also played a southwestern hoe-down tune, a decidedly Spanish/Italien piece with lots of flamenco guitar in it (she was accompanied by a stellar band of musicians) and, most amazing of all, a really cool blues piece complete with brushes on the drums, walking base line, and rockin' bluesy vocals by her basist. ROCK! Oh, yeah, there was some electric guitar thrown in there for kicks, too. ANYWAY~
Natalie is ADORABLE. She has the cutest Canadian accent, and she's really pretty and outgoing and energetic, and it shows in her performance. You just wanted to run up and hug her and give her a kiss on the cheek for being so damn cute. All that, and she totally floors you with how talented she is. Hot damn! Now, on to the highlights of the evening...
Memorable Moments
--When the two kids (looked to be about 8 or 10 or somewhere in there, very young) came out and did step-dancing in really cute outfits. :-D
--When they busted out with a south-western hoe-down that had the whole room on their feet and a few people jigging in the aisle.
--Natalie made the (CUTE) guitar player and bass player dance with her (as in they actually had dance moves, it was hilarious!)
--Natalie moonwalked across the stage while the bass player ripped out the baseline from Play That Funky Music White Boy.... *giggles helplessly*
--The guitar player and Natalie sang a duet, made the whole band sing along, then got the whole audience to sing along as well.
--When Natalie step-danced (kicking her heels together, tapping on the stage, kicking above her head, jumping in the air, the whole shebang) PLAYING THE FIDDLE THE WHOLE TIME... damn.... bout blew my mind, she's friggin' amazing...
--WHEN THEY PLAYED THE DRUNKEN PIPER!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
--When the kids came back out for the encore, and Natalie joined hands with them and the three of them step-danced together in perfect time. AWWW!
--The whole band (excluding the drummer and the piano player) did Chinese Firedrill, running around the stage still playing the whole time. *giggles*
--I loved the way the band members (including Natalie) kept running over to each other and dancing and playing with each other, really getting into the music... it's hard to describe but it was SO fun to watch. :-D
--When Natalie made all the band (excluding the same guys above) do a kick-line with her onstage....
The list goes on. Needless to say, it was DEFINATELY one of the most fun, most memorable performances I've ever had the privelage of going to, and IT TOTALLY ROCKED!! AUUUUGGGHHH!! I WANNA PLAY FIDDLE LIKE THAT!!! *runs around in happy little circles* WHEEEEEEE *giggles* heh heh heh... ciao!
