I was walking back from class, and some of the people I know from japanese lecture were walking with me. There were people passing out little bibles all over campus, which personally annoys me, as I view religion to be a more private thing that definately shouldn't be pushed on anyone. But the two boys were talking about what they would do with the little bibles if they got ones pushed on them, and Robert commented that they would make great tinder.
This really, really annoyed me. I mean, how rude is that? And how arrogant? Just because you don't happen to be a big fan of the religion doesn't give you the right to just randomly destroy the holy book of that religion... None of you guys would think of doing that to a Q'ran or the Torah, so why would someone do it to the Bible? That really bothered me. That just makes me think you have a total lack of respect for that religion, or rather, for religious institutions in general. It just pisses me off when people flagrantly insult or mock religion, any religion... I don't happen to be a particularly devout Christian, but I like to think of myself as a spiritual person, and I have great respect for these institutions, these schools of thought that HAVE done good and guided people who felt they were otherwise lost for thousands of years. No religion is perfect---far from it----and obviously sometimes they've done more harm than good. It's just.....
